I need to know the supply and demand for housing as the result of Katrins in the New Orleans and Mississippi area..What is the future for the people with out adequate housing and will the gov. provide or will these people be on welfare the rest of there lives.

Currently demand is high and supply is low. There are several theories as to why this is - not the least of which is that New Orleans does not want "the poor" back. One certain thing is that funds - government and/or insurance - are slow to come in, plus with such high demand for labor there is just not enough licensed contractors to do the work.

Now as to what the future for these folks is.... I for one hope that they stay where ever they are and start anew. A rebuilt New Orleans with the same residents and the same attitudes is the last thing that should be allowed to happen. This was a chance to make things better and squandering that opportunity would be a shame.

Just saw the news that they are wiping out 5000 Public Housing units. Now that is a good start to fixing what ails the city
