no because a 4.0 is a straight-A student so a 3.8 is quite good!!

It's only bad if everyone else (or a lot of students) have a higher gpa or if your school uses a different scale.

This is why colleges ask for BOTH class rank and GPA, because at some schools, 3.8 comes out of a 5.0...in which case you'd have a B average (while still not bad, is not as phenomenal as an A average). Also, there are some schools at which grade inflation is a real problem so if you happened to be at a school with a lot of people who had a 3.8 or higher, it wouldn't be "bad" but it wouldn't be impressive.

But for, say, 95% of the time, the answer is, as others have said, a 3.8 is great. Don't worry so much!

No, a 3.8 is very good. It still qualifies as an A. A 4.0 is perfect. From 3.51to 4.0 = A

No, that is a great average. I have a 3.5 grade point average and that is good enough to make the dean's list at the college I am at. Great JOB!!!

that's pretty darn good. if you are down in the 2.0's then you need to worry.
