If your looking for a group, weight watchers is the way to go, but if you want to do it on your own you have to change your lifestyle for life. Be your own trainer and nutritionist, the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that’s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol if that applies. Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren't are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can’t live without your one treat a day, don’t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that’s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you’ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
As for exercise, lots of cardio. Find something you like. If you have never exercised much before, start with walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. Move on to different terrains that include hills and increase the time spent. After a week or two, try jogging the route. No matter what find an activity you enjoy. Walking to jogging is just an example, try hiking, rollerblading, biking. Once you get into a regular routine, if your not happy with the level of difficulty, try signing up with a gym. Spinning, pilates or kickboxing classes are great. It will also introduce you to working with weights. Talk to a trainer for instruction before using any weights. A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture. There are hundreds of exercises you can use it for for your entire body. I can give you some ideas if you want, just email me. For starters, she needs to eat to lose weight. If she is hardly eating anything, her body is going to hold on to every bit of fat it can because it thinks you are starving it. To begin with, here is why the body gains weight, and how you can lose it ( I am a biology major, aspiring doctor) Your body's cells need calories to produce ATP( a form of energy) to keep your body going. When you take in to many calories( which is a form of energy) Your cell actually shuts down because it doesnt need the extra energy. When this happens, the extra calories gets transported to a storage cell ( fat cell) How do you get rid of the storage cell? When you use more energy (ATP) than your body is producing, the cells will go to your storage cell (fat cell) for the extra energy that your body needs to keep going. What is more energy? More energy is doing "extra" work that your body is not used too. She may need to take a break from walking, and do something different, or switch it up, and change the way she walks. I read once, and based on my own experiences, that walking backwards actually burns more calories because your having to put forth more effort. I have also noticed with this too that your thighs really get a work out. As I have said before with eating more, what she needs to do is take her weight X 15, this will give her her daily caloric intake, what she needs to eat each day to maintain her weight. Now, to lose 1 pound a week, she needs to subtract 500 calories from that amount. Eating healthy is a really good start. Eat whole grain foods such as whole wheat bread, whole wheat pastas, more fresh fruits and veggies, frozen if necessary. Drink more water. Hope this helps

Keep in mind, the best way is not always the fastest way. The only way to lose weight is to cut down on the total calorie intake for the day. Keep low on the carbs and fat but do NOT eliminate them. Exercise is also a big big key. DONT GIVE UP

Ol' school!
1) sleep 8 hours.
2)Wake up early enough to work out for an hour.(running, jogging, aerobics, weight training......but never the same thing on consecutive days.)
3)Take shower and do your girly stuff.
4)Eat a good breakfast (very important)
5)Goto work or school and eat small meals (3-4) troughout the day.
6)And the most important-YOUR LAST MEAL SHOULD NEVER BE PAST 7:00PM OR 3-4 HOURS BEFORE BEDTIME.EATING LATE MEALS AND SLEEPING RIGHT AFTER EATING GAINS WEIGHT.THAT MEANS YOU JUST DEFEATED YOUR WHOLE PURPOSE FOR THE DAY.OUR GOAL IS TO BURN FAT THROUGHOUT THE DAY DOING "EVERYDAY" STUFF.
It's not hard, just be committed.
Do this for 12 weeks and you'll be tighter than JJ on the may issue of US Weekly.

It's all in portion control. Most "portions" on a container are only about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup and when you think in those terms, you're probably way over eating.....I know, I do the same thing....but taking a walk every day or doing "just a little bit more" will do wonders for you. Good luck to you!

know what, we have the same problem. fortunately, i've almost solved it. why almost? it's because, i'm slimming down for two months now. i wanna ask, do you have this goal to have the perfect figure and get it in just a week? this shouldn't be the vision, girl. you should target on achievable goals. slimming down won't happen overnight. you have to condition yourself, beleive in yourself that you can do it and of course, you have to really do it - walk, jog, run, get on that treadmill, eat veggies and laugh a lot. be positive.
i did research how to teach my self to do it myself without expecting a lot. you have to develop your own way of losing weight by integrating tested methods. search the net. read articles.
having a husband who complains about your figure every single day is unimaginable. however my husband is just that kind of person. this is another issue. if you feel you have to slim down for others, you'll just stress yourself out. do it for your self, for your well being and to feel good.
good luck....

I saw a study online yesterday that ranked the Weight Watchers point system as the easiest to use and most healthy. Stay away from Atkins though, it raised my cholesterol so high it was dangerous.

To lose weight you have to really sacrifice bad foods and be motivated to excercise to build firm muscles....
if you really like Sugar Foods (like sweets etc..), you will have to excercise alot more to burn it out or else it will store as fat!!!
Try getting into a habit of eating more healthy foods like fruits that have natural sugars ( your body breaks down this type of sugar easier and won't store it as fat) and eat more vegetables like salads and don't forget to eat things that have protein required for building and maintaining muscles. Excercise every day for the least 30 minutes, if you can't sacrifice sugar foods , build up your work out session for up to an hour . and drink lots of water to give your matabolism a boost and get at least 8 hours rest.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

well hopefully I can give you the secret to sticking to a diet. I am a counsellor and hopefully this will help. The problem is usually not about the diet...you most probably know heaps of different diets you could go on (weight watchers, jenny craig, csiro diet etc) the difficulty lies on the self control necessary to maintain a diet. Keeping busy doing voluntary work even will help you to distract you during the day, especially in an environment where you can only eat at certain break times. The secrets are usually 3 fold to maintaining the self control. 1-cognitive-what you think, changing what you think is important - keeping you mind focussed on other things other than food - saying positive affirmations "I will only eat 3 small meals a day, in between I will fill my stomach up with heaps of water and diet drinks." Saying these positive affirmations and affirmations of your own will help. 2- behavioural, keeping you body active is a way of keeping your mind focussed on other things. Look at you behaviour , what triggers your eating, is it watching tv, is it sitting at home all the time, is it lack of work. Restrict your eating to a certain place, such as at the table at a set meal time. this will help resist the temptation to eat in the lounge, or snack around the house. I will only eat at the table whilst in this house. 3- is the most useful - external measures, environment is a big help or restriction to your eating patterns. Where you are, do you walk by Mcdonalds all the time, do you have money in your wallet all the time (to tempt you to buy fast food). If you dont have the self control and have spent most of you life trying to find it then you need to change your focus, use outside measure to beat your self control problem. lock yourself in a room during certain hours of the day, give your savings money to someone whom you trust who will pay your bills for you so that you dont have any money to buy fast food, lock your fridgem, kitchen, or cupboards and dont keep the key yourself cause you cant trust yourself. Handcuff your hands behind your back during certain hours of the day or get a friend or flatmate to be your body guard and to keep you out of the kitchen. You need to find a measure to keep you away from food, lock yourself up, etc... until your stomach gets used to eating a more reasonable amount of food. It usually takes about 3 weeks of locking yourself up before your body realises it doesnt want any extra food and your stomach will shrink. Your stomach is stretchy so if you are keeping stuffing big amounts of food in it then it will ask for the same amount tommorrow and the next day and the result is that you will find it difficult to resist it tommorrow. A dietician also said once that often our bodies can confuse the message of need for food for need for water. We drink far too many juices, fizzy drinks and so our bodies get programmed to ask for food in order to get water cause it is not getting enough water. IF you dring enough water you can also fill your stomach up so much that it will assist with eating cravings. You have just recieved $200 worth of therapy for nothing so please done ignore this, number 3 is what most people who are having constant obesity issues need. People who are near their goal weight should not use this method.
