The answer is not NEARLY that simple. The fact is MOST Americans get there news from television...television makes it's money by selling advertising...controversy and hatred sells better than peace and harmony. Therefore the media is going to present any news story in as controversial a manner as is possible. Since a vast majority of Americans take what is said in the media at face value...and the only Islamics they see represented are the fanatical, terrorist, jihad loving extremists ( they try to portray Christians the same way) then that vast majority is going to assume that all Islamic people are terrorists who hate us, so they will generalize and hate all Islamic people.

I have Muslim friends and we get along fine even with Religious Differences, we just have Respect for each other. BUT, it is true, some westerners do the same as what you have done in your question. We think ALL people think alike. TV and News Media helps in this misguided thought. Guess we all do on different Topics. It called Stereotyping (When a person believe, all are the same because of the actions of a few). I care about people not what Governments want me to believe. I have found through the Internet most people are good we are different, but, people in general can be friends. It the Political People (Governments/Terrorists) that keep making the Trouble.

Actually, I think it's because the Muslims aren't conforming to the Christian beliefs. You may not feel this way, but I have observed many Christians who feel that if you didn't jump on the bandwagon, you're evil/bad/a terrible person. That applies even more so to the religions that are closest to Christianity--Judaism (Jews in particular) and Muslims, but it can also apply to other branches of Christianity, too, from what I've seen. When I was growing up my dad always made a point to say how all of the more ritualistic Christian denominations were so very wrong. It made me wonder why he was pointing it out so much--if they were bad, surely it was obvious without all that emphasis. I have later learned that it was just his prejudice talking.
If you are good to others, what does it matter what your religion is? I'm Wiccan, but I don't go around saying that all Christians are terrible even though most would say that about me.

The West hate Islam because the West and the Muslims fight with each other since long time ago. The West throughout the history always see Muslims as a threat to their culture and civilization. The West is mainly Christian, due to the Roman Empire legacy.

Not all westerners dislike or hate Islam or Muslims -- but the ones who do are very vocal about their feeling.
There are those who hate what SOME Muslims have done and blame ALL Muslims, unfortunately. They probably know only limited parts of Islamic teachings and have little to base it on, but what they do know, they don't like.
There are also those who hate because of skin color. Not all people do that. And there are also people who hate based on religion. They don't like it when someone else does the same thing to them, which also happens -- not everyone, but some.

I don't hate Islam. I don't hate Arabs or Asians.
I live in the US.
Please don't generalize, just because of the actions of few, doesn't mean everyone is "guilty".
And to the person who said Christians hate Islam, I AM Christian. I don't believe for one second that Islam is "competition". Religion is not a competition.

i imagine there are some Westerners that detest Muslims and Arabs, yet maximum people do not. i imagine the precedence is that the hot from that area of the international, when you consider that a minimum of 1948, has continuously shown Muslims in a nasty gentle. for sure, the habit of the novel fringe does no longer help.

I'm a westerner and I don't hate anyone of any nationality or race or religion, but that's just my opinion. I am a christian and I don't hate Islam. When I was growing up, my parents were teachers and they made sure that we had books around, including the Koran, (although I'm not sure that I'm spelling it correctly I have read it and it's fascinating), to inform us of other peoples ideas and cultures.

That is totally ridiculous. Westerners dont hate Islam or Muslims.
Western countries embrace diversity amongst its peoples.
We have lots of Muslims who are good citizens of their respective countries who also dont have the need to go to religious war.
We dont hate Muslims we hate killers.
