Ethnobotany is the study of the relationship between plants and people: From"ethno" - study of people and "botany" - study of plants. Ethnobotany is considered a branch of ethnobiology. Ethnobotany studies the complex relations between (uses of) plants and cultures. The focus of ethnobotany is on how plants have been or are used in human societies and includes plants used for food, medicine, for building, tools, currency, clothing, rituals, social life, and music.

In US only, ethnobotany has been and is still often confused with economic botany and sustainable agriculture.

GREAT field to study how plants are used by humans all over the world, how the various plants were spread all over the world when people migrated from their original homelands and how the food industry and chefs (and other non-food industries) use the various parts of the plants. We used the book PLANTS FOR MAN. Great reading even if you don't want to take an ethnobotany class. Lots of SURPRIZING things!
