I agree it’s not equally balanced, but women have many privileges too. (Besides, they aren’t really happy about sharing their hubbies as well...) For example, the money their husband earns is theirs. Also, they must be satisfied in every way equally. In the Middle East, for example, some women have better cars than their husbands, and they also wear jewels a Western woman can only dream of.
Finally, women can divorce any time. In Christianity it is not really right to do.

in islam......women and men r equal........maybe not in the same subject ..but on the whole they r equal .......let me explain u................in a class suppose there r 100 students in which 2 students bagged the highist marks of 90 out of 100...........now the question paper contains ...10 question each carrying 10 marks .........the student A had answered the last question wrong and the student B had answered the first answer wrong ........so both of them r weak in some field but over all they r equal and r called as the toppers.
In the same way is islam it shows partiality to no one.........this a fact....
people who do not know islam hate it .....becoz of their silly misconceptions.......
the men have the power to marry 4 women but do u think the men will be happy by that ....NO WAYS they will be seriously in danger ......becoz according to islam he will have to share all his belongings and even his time with his wives EQUALLY!!
in some cases the women has superiority that is in case of divorse the child goes to the mother not the father ....only if the mother refuses to take care of the child then only the child is given to the father............one more thing islam is very scientific.....things that r discovered now by scientists have already been mentioned in the quran 1400 years ago........
do u know the fact that women being in sexual contact with too many men do get uncurable diseases unlike men............this explains why the quran does not allow women to have more than 1 husband...............
for any details u can always contact me........

Women have just as many priviliges. Men can not just up and marry 4. They have the right to, but right after being told they have the right to the next verse says "but it's better to marry only one, for a man can not be just with just one". Meaning that if he does marry 4, they must have 4 separat houses and be treated completely equal. He can not play favorites. Sort of like that HBO show called Big Love. And men are not superior, they are simply the ones who are responsible for the household. Women are just as intelligent as men, some even more so. Oh, and a woman can not marry 4 because there would be a questoin of fathering children. With a man who has 4 wives, there would be no question. Women in Islam are protected, yes, but they also have the right to be just as much a part of society as men. They can be leaders if they so choose. Women have the right to work for their own pleasure and do with their money what they choose to. They do not have to contribute a single dime to the bills or family becuase the man is the one who is responsible for it. A woman has the right to vote. She has the right to be sexaully satisfie by her husband and he is told in the religion to put her satisfaction in the bedroom first. Men are told not to beat their women because "How can you beat your wife by day and then approach her by night". meaning how can you be so cold hearted. Women have the right to speak their minds and be hears, as is evdienced in the hadith when the women would debate in the gatherings. Women can basically do the same things as men can, but both are equally balanced.

It is very simple. Quran is written by a male who wanted to be called a prophet and was jealous of others becoming prophet, so declared himself as the last prophet. He as a man had 14 wives and many concubines. From his experience he felt that an average man can satisfy not more than 4 women on whom he can successfully exercise his rights as a husband.

It is true that Islam as generally practiced, and as prescribed by the Q'ran, places men above women. And unless you ignore 99% of the Jewish/Christian scriptures on the subject, these two groups ALSO place men above women.
What baffles me is that anyone expects any different from dogmas arising out of the traditions of primitive, patriarchal, tribal societies. Did you think these backward dictates were the result of well thought-out ideas from enlightened intellectuals?

Well, at that time, mohame needed many warriors with scarce brains and a lot of guts.
Therefore, since women were not important then ( and among the islamics, they still are not ) and were only a merchandise and a reward, he promised many women to attract men who didn't care to die in order to get many, many women
