i was wondering how long does water need to sit out before it becomes stagnated?

It can start to stagnate in 24 hours under the right conditions but that is in a lab. Out in the open it would take several week to become stagnated to where you could not use it for any purpose. As long as the water flows it will not stagnate. Only standing water will stagnate.

Depends on your definition of stagnant.

Definition:

1. still and unmoving: not flowing or moving

2. foul or stale: stale or impure from lack of motion

If definition one, it can be in an instant. If definition number two, it depends on the bacteria and environment the water is exposed to. Could be anywhere from hours, to days depending on enviroment.
