Is it a man and wife's duty to have children?
I ask because I have a friend who's husband suddently tells her that he will not have children with her. Isn't this against Muslim law?
Sorry for my ignorance, and thank you for your answers.

The Prophet said, 'Marry and beget children'. If the man had conveyed to the lady that he didn't want to beget children before the marriage and the lady accepted to it, then it's a totally different issue. Otherwise, he has to satisfy his wife's needs and if Allah wills have to beget the children. If he doesn't accept it, she can take the matter to a shariath court to councel him. The last option is to ask for his divorce.

Even if it is against Muslim law this man has a right by his own will to decide to have children or not, especially if he's living the the USA. I understand someones right to refrain from having children with our world overly populated as it is.

You're not ignorant, Allah said:
"And you only got small fraction of science"
"و ما أوتيتم من العلم إلا قليلا"
Concerning this issue in my opinion:
There was nothing in The Holy Qur'an that forbids marriage without children: Allah said:
"And we made pairs out of yourselves to be calm with, and we made love and mercy between you"
BUT it says in many occasions in Qur'an and Sunnah that it's better to have children for life to continue. A woman has a motherly instinct, and almost all women dream about having a baby. Nevertheless, let them both talk it over, without accusations, let them talk as adults, and try to convince your friend or ask her, why doesn't she want children. There might be something that is holding her back from conceiving a child, Allah said:
"And we made money and children the happiness of life"

May Allah guide us through happiness, and good luck for your friend.

Hope that helped.

It all is dependent upon the situations as good because the couple. If certainly one of them wishes to have intercourse and the opposite one does now not then sure it is a Major challenge and will finish a wedding due to the fact that intercourse may be very foremost nevertheless if u are speakme approximately the case of certainly one of them being unwell or not able to have intercourse for bodily explanations then the opposite partner would possibly decide on to be sufferer or now not; like i mentioned it is dependent upon the folks. And a Muslim marriage does now not expire without reference to if the couple has intercourse or now not.

Yes, that is the purpose for marriage. His wife has a right to divorce him because he is refusing one of her basic rights to become a mother. It's ok if both decide, but him doing this is completely unislamic. She should divorce him and remarry to a man she knows wants children.
