corn is the generic term for any grain of a cereal crop.
maize is the sweetcorn variety originating in central america.

ie maize is a type of corn but not all corn is maize

Maize is another name for indian corn cus in the irish famine the english sent indian corn to the irish and called it maize, i read somewhere.
