If you need to proceed North then you can do one of several things, first you can look to the stars and find the north star and use that as your guide or if you don't know the north star watch the bottom of the trees, Moss grows on the North side of trees and as long as the moss is facing the direction in which you are going you are going in the right direction (you can also get water for drinking from moss if it has rained recently). Most importantly if you are lost and you are not familiar with the woods stay in one general area until someone can find you or else wait until morning when you can see what is around you better

Spit on your hand rub it on the sole of your shoes 3 times and make a circle on your face 4 times. then head to north following the void between the moon and the big dipper constalation and if you are still lost start thinking as to why the heck were you in the dark forest at night with no equipment when you can be at home reading this forum :)

Feel the trees, most will have lichen and moss on their trunks, In ther Norhern Hemisphere the Lichen etc will be thicker on the south side (where it gets maximum sunlight) therefore proceed in the opposite direction. In the southern Hemisphere the moss etc is thivker on the North side
