You never hear fo the winners so I wonder if anyone really ever wins?

A number of officials from McDonald's officiating company which ran the Monopoly promotions for many years, were convicted of fraud and theft. They were stealing the big winner pieces and using shills to turn them in for the prize. Splitting the winnings with the shills.
Hopefully if the game returns they will have a better organization to run the game for them.

I'm in Australia and we had a winner of the grand prize a few years ago...it was all over the news because McDonald's refused to pay up because the mayfair or parklane were off of cartons from the previous year which had been saved for the next promo instead of wasting them by throwing them out. It proved McDonald's do not intend to give away anything that costs money just want to make more for themselves.
