Actually, the stories in the bible originate from older tales that were first (of course) spread by word of mouth but eventually were written down. They were a part of the oral culture of the time and incorporated them into society that existed during the writing of the biblical works.

Check out the link below. These ancient mesopotamian texts are present in the bible in some form.

Isn't it true that the more stories that are written, the more things start to look the same with different characters names?

No because a novel has one author, so using the argument that many different prophets wrote the bible ie Samuel, David, Joshua, Elijah, Mark, Luke, John, Paul ect ect it could not be one of the first fictional novels, but would have to be one of the first collection of fictional short stories. But for those of us that believe it as the word of God and the true author is God it is definitely the best selling novel of all time.

I have asked this same question countless times. I feel that the bible was written by a group of men who wanted to dictate the way that we live our lives. They are the true inspiration for Society and if you do not conform to this than you are not living your life as "GOD" planned and are therefore an outcast. There has been no "real" proof of the existance of God and in all it's more of a scare tactic for others who need to know that someone is watching them in order for them to make the right decisions.

As a matter of fact it could be, but you see, it contains so many prophecies that have been fulfilled, so many places, names, incidents that are real and (in my opinion, the most important) it so accurately explains historical facts and every-day life that it is constrainedly excluded from the "fictional novels" section and qualified as authentic masterpiece of the One who is the TRUTH.

No, many of the OT stories and ideas were borrowed from older mythologies. Bible is sort of a Religionists Digest. However it probably is the best collection of mythology on the planet (nicely organised & superbly presented).

Indeed, fiction in the form of "allegory" and "mystery" to solve "in time", since there is neither mystery nor time for it in eternity; And the Law (sin, death, hell) thereof is only a "shadow" of things to come, not the very(true) things to come.

Sound the alarm, awake the king, the kingdom of Grace is under attack from a "shadow"... should get the same response as chicken little saying the sky is falling.

But not a novel for the novice. Rather it's more like a spiritual obstacle training course, where giving place(existence) to devilish law can indeed lead to "wrath" and "destruction" and even "death". And many who've suffered through it (the valley of the shadow of death) would aptly describe grief as "hell" which follows Death, the named rider which rode in on an unnamed (fictional) horse: the law (Revelation 6:8).

The Holy Bible defines itself as "allegory" in both "covenants": Galatians 4, and also as "mystery" over 20 times in the New Testament. It also says scriptures were written "aforetime" for our "learning": Romans 15, and written as a "shew", which is the plural of show (both words are used), to "shew Who is the blessed and only Potentate in his times" of such allegoric Law and Grace, both claiming to be God, or of God.

And since Law and Grace are "contrary" things that cannot co-exist, not in peace, only One can be the winner take all for God and kingdom thereof to have true and lasting peace. And since the kingdom of God is somehow located "within you", it behooves you to compare spiritual things: Law vs Grace in every allegoric aspect, such as darkness vs light, curse vs bless, sacrifice vs mercy, division vs peace, death vs life, hell vs heaven, etc, and then pick one only of twain.

And remember, every good mystery has lots of twists to it, kinda like the ultimate matrix; so when it says "take heed", you may wanna give heed. For "escape" is notably only via "give more earnest heed". The alternative: "no escape" sort of "destruction".

So, we could say it's kinda like a hollow deck program on Star Trek, but with the safety feature turned off; And whatever you do or say affects all the kingdom of God "within you".

Thank God "the end" of the God Shew is already written.

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
