What is the best way to organize ones emails?

For me, what I did was create folders with people's names on them and the e-mails that I wanted to keep I just moved the e-mail to the respective folder...

I have seperate folders for different types of mail. ex) family, school, loans, car insurance, etc. Each time I get a new email, I put it in a certaion folder after I read it.
