The easiest way to hand tame a cockatiel is to first clip his wings. If you don't know how to do this, please take him to a pet store or an avian vet, they usually only charge about $5.00. Then, put him in a dry bathtub, put your finger under his belly and push on it. Keep saying "step up" each time you push on his belly. He/she will run away at first, but can't get out of the bathtub. As soon as he/she realizes he cant' get out without your help, he will step up on your finger. Do this about every other day until he does it without having to put him in the bathtub.

1st be kind/gentle let bird know you are not afraid of it. Talk to it softly, try & put your finger under it's chest, as if to step-up, & say step up. Keep talking to it. All birds have a beak & know how to use them & it hurts sometime. Be determined & keep going back & repeating the above steps. Finally one time you approach to start the process over again & walla, the bird comes to you & wants you to pet it, & now is your friend. If want to train it, have wings clipped as is easier to handle.
