Politicians propose bills that have no chance of passing all the time to get a political effect. REP Charles Rangle proposed this bill to bring attention to the Iraq War (this is the 2nd Draft bill he has proposed) He did mention national service in this one that was not in the last one and that also appeals to the Communist Ideals of the Left so this one may have more support than the last one.

I think that this is a bad Idea with no plan for funding, meaning he has no plans for it to pass.

It is probably in response to the Marriage amendment that republicans proposed that also had no chance of passing but got a political effect of rallying the republican base.

As a member of the armed forces I do not want national service because this will rush unmotivated youth in to the military who don't want to work and are only doing it because it is required.

I also think that such a program brings us closer to the socialist welfare state that the left has been pushing for years. It would in essence make 80 million new government employees over night (those who will owe 2 years of service to the government) 4 million new government employees every year as they turn 18.

I hope they do reinstate the draft it may cause more patriotism and give every the responsibility of defending their personal liberties and freedoms. I am sure it will never come to pass however. Spain has a program where every person at age 18 must do a 2 year commitment to their armed forces maybe they have the right idea. I don't see Spain rushing to fight wars. If every ones family is at risk the decisions to initiate war may be slow to be sure it is the right thing to do at the right time. That's just an opinion of a military dependent of 20 years. Take it or leave it

This as no chance of passing. Wrangle is just trying to gain the spotlight once again. Don't let this thing keep you up late at night, frettting over something that isn't there.
