We can teach our kids manners, but, when they get with thier peers, then it seems everything we taught them goes out the window!
That is a good reason why we as adults should only associate with those who are positive iinfluences on our kids, so that we know that thier kids will be good around our kids also...(of course, you DO have exceptions...mostly preachers sons and daughters I see...sheesh).
Get with a good Church, and the kids will see positive role models, and good Christian children. If you let then 'hang' with scoundrels and delinquents (unless they are witnessing to them), then they will pick up all thier bad habits!!
Remember, putting a good apple in with a bunch of rotten apples, does not turn the whole barrel good, it will only make that one good apple (unless they are exceptionally strong in thier Faith, and what teenager 'really' is?), then that teen will ultimately go bad too...
I wish you well..
Jesse

A good question. The main reason this occured is because of multiculturism. The differences in rules of behavior and expression, religious beliefs play a big part. The world of Television which also opened this up and is a great influence in what the young child learns.I think multiculturism is great,by the way.I am from immigrant parents myself.

Seriously, if you trace it back, you can see a steady decline from the moment they took prayer and corporal punishment out of the public school system. Parents aren't as active in their children's lives, they don't take them to church or punish them effectively. Everyone is so concerned with being politically correct and parents are scared to spank their children for fear of Child Welfare knocking on their door (as they did mine when my son got 1 (yes, ONE) swat on the butt). Is there something we can do about it? I'm not so sure about that one. I don't think there is a way to get things back to where they should be without moving to the Amish Country.

there are many cultures today that come here from way over populated areas, and the only way they get anything is to be pushy.
but, there are those who have been raised by parents who for some reason fail to pay attention to how their children interact with the public. laziness maybe? or they don't spend enough time with the kids during social outings to know and/or to discipline them. what i mean is maybe no one brings these things to their attention.
whatever the reason, you couldn't be more right!

Things are so fast today. People don't have time to be nice and respectful. Parents don't have time to teach manners. Teachers don't have time to teach the child correctly so they just pass them on.
What can we do about it?
Well that is simple start with yourself and those around you. Be nice and respectful. And most important teach your children to be nice and respectful.

Well first of all Good Afternoon!! I believe in this competetive world , people have not only become less courteous but als because of cut throat competetion they can go to any extent to get their way out even of it harms the other.
I believe, we need to first be more courteous ourselves then expect the others to be nice to us.

I think it has happened because perhaps parents expect less from their kids than they once did. There are many parents who just seem to throw their hands up in the air and give up on parenting..way too easily and quickly.

One reason is cell phones and ipods, they allow people to ignore everyone. And Parents and teachers don't teach us respect and kindness like they did when I was a child.
