It's not going to be a few days--- several months is a more realistic timeline, and it won't be all airlines or all carriers at first, but yes, this change is coming. It will be very expensive, though, as you will be connected to satellites and not cellular towers when you're talking. So expect to pay $5/minute for talk time. And also expect your fellow passengers to glare at you while you are on the phone; it is already unpleasant to be stuck next to someone yakking away on their phone if you're in a subway; I imagine it will be horrid in the close spaces of a plane.

I hope not. The one place in the world (aside from a hospital) where we don't have to put up with the constant annoyance of ringtones and people talking out loud without consideration for others who don't want to know about their life.
