Probably for native English speakers it sounds worse than for a foreigner. I just find it funny cause chick in my language is not a negative word. It is more cute than degrading. But that is only free translation, right?
:-)
In any case, somehow it implies that you consider the woman very young (and this is good!) but you see her also maybe in lack of experience or even, having empty brains (and then of course that is bad!).
Better avoid the word if you want to seem mature and polite.

It doesn't bother me. It would depend on how they said it. I'm a girl and I call girls chicks too. I don't think its degrading. Its just a name and it has no meaning to it.

i hate being called a Lady im not 60 and that would mean i have to act lady like. I dont get offended by any names, when they come from people who know me.
