well, six weeks ago, coming up seven i sparined my ankle at netball and eversince i have been playing netball but it really hurts and you know how the swelling supposed to have gone after one week, well my ankle is still as swollen as it was when i did it, my mum said that its not because i have been playing netball on it (she is a nurse) so she should know. and i went to the doctors and they said that was nothing wrong with it and i doubt it, this was 5 weeks ago, what can i do to stop the swelling its really bugging me so yeah, and my netball coach who is the same age as me has been pressuring me to stop playing till its better, but then we wont have enough people on our team to play. and i play competitavly so i cant just not play. and i have been wearing an ankle brace, since i did it and it hasn't helped and it is like the best one on the market, so you think i should stop playing or go back to the doctors and stuff like that because, right now i am really confused. please help!!

you need to stop playing on it and see a doctor. if a doctor has told you there is nothing wrong when the ankle is swollen then you need to see a different doctor. ankles don't stay swollen for no reason.
you can just not play. if you rest the ankle and wait for it to heal you can get back to playing, if you keep playing on it you may mess it up permanently. then not only will your team have to find another player but you will have messed up your ankle for life. are a few games really worth that?

I, myself, have also sprained my ankle almost six months ago. It is still swollen and hurts when I am up on it too much. I almost broke my ankle I sprained it so bad. My orthopedic doctor told me that my ankle was so badly sprained that it will take up to a year for the swelling to stop. I thought he was lying to me, but six months later, he is still right. I have sprained the same ankle many times over the years and this was the first time that I have experienced long term effects from it. Usually, the swelling will go away in a week, but not this time. I also have to wear an ankle brace for support if I am going to do a lot of walking or standing. Use your better judgement on what to do to heal yourself. Just know some sprains take a long time to heal and some heal in a short period of time. Depends on the severity of the injury.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Okay, first of all, I have to say after seeing the big please, the word emergency, and all the exclamation points, I literally lol'ed when I read the details and saw "well, six weeks ago.."
But yeah, OF COURSE you should stop playing. Go back to the doctor.. or even a different doctor. Your team winning a few extra games is not worth you screwing up your foot for life.

maybe its more than a sprain, could be you broke a bone, or something because if it was just a sprain you should be able to just massage it with some eucalyptus cream or camphor oil or something and do some light foot exersises and it will come back to normal.Go see another doctor, the pain and swelling is telling you something is wrong.Maybe you torn the ligament.Ask Doctor Gregory Morris.

ok you may have torn a legiment. have the drs do an MRI. if you already have done one or whatnot... then what i do for mine "i tore legiments few years back* is take ibprophen. it will keep the swelling down. also continue using the brace. a sprain ankel takes a long time to heal especially if you continue playing on it.

Do as what your coach said. Rest until it's fully healed. Not enough people on your team to play is not reason enough to have a permanent injury...
