recently, out of no where my computer started running very slow. i ran several virus checks. but my virus program shows nothing is wrong. i defragged the hard drive . when i went to run a disk clean up it just sits there with about two bars showing completion for over 24 hrs. when i can finally get on-line its slow, but not as bad. it just takes awhile to get the computer to log on. any suggestions would be great help!

Seems to be a serious issue. OK scan disk is a problem, but while running a disk defrag did you find any problems. If yes could be an HDD issue like bad sectors, or cluster. Try this out. Back up your data, Over the Internet visit your hard drive manufacturers website and download a software to run a LOW LEVEL FORMAT on your computers hard drive and also a software to run a scan on your HDD to test for any problems. First run the software that will scan your HDD for any problems. Once that is done you will get to the root of the problem. You will know if your HDD is good or bad. Any thing be the result run the 1st software to run a low level format. That will completely erase the data on your computers HDD, even the MBR. Reinstall the OS and then check. If the problem persists and while running a diagnostic on your HDD if any problems were seen, please repair your HDD as soon as possible. Hope that answers your question.

i believe you computer had a virus, you may check it by task manager and monitoring cpu time of each process.
Update you virus definition live online. and keep it up to date. just a virus installation in can not work, do update it online and then rescan your computer for viruses. you system will be clean from viruses and work better.
Good Luck

Install a new antivirus and antispyware. A virus can disable an antivirus. Get antivir from http://www.freeav.com/ or avast.
I prefer antivir.
