I have Flash8 at work but it faintly reminds me alot of Macromind Director. I never liked it and couldn't operate it either. It's not that I'm daft, it's just that it's not very intuitive...

Swish Max is kind of like Macromedia's Flash WYSIWYG editor, but its featureset is definitely different. It's also cheaper. Not sure if it's actually easier to use than Flash though.

The company also has other specialized Flash-creation products, which might make specific tasks easier (e.g. making music-playing SWF files)
