I need help. What should I do? I really cannot wait until I have my own place. I still live with my parents and we live in an attatched town home so that means our walls are connected. Plus...it sux if I have to do something tomorrow and like they always have a party at this hour!

Seriously, call the cops. It's inconsiderate for them to be having parties on a TUESDAY so late and loud. File noise complaint with your leasing office, or perhaps you can go over and talk to them. State that if they don't keep the music down, you will be forced to call the cops. I live in a townhome too so I know that the noise level echos.

Just call the police. Tell them it's a noise complaint. They'll go out to the house that the complaint was made on and ask them to settle down. Call every time it happens. The police will get tired of having to come out to the same house and eventually give them a citation. Either that, or the people that live there will get tired of the cops coming and settle down or party elsewhere. I had the same problem last year. After she woke up my kids several times and I called the police, she moved out to the country where she could make all the noise she wanted.

uh, they are in college. I don't think it's fair to say they are stupid, no matter how you spell it. You could go ask them nicely to turn their music down. Or you could just learn to block out the noise and go to sleep anyway. I recomend the second one. I can sleep through loud music, and movies shaking the house due to surround sound systems. Learn some selfdiscapline, and it will help you later on in life.
And to the people that say to call the police and remain annonmus, atleast the college people aren't ashamed of what they are doing. If you don't want other people know about what you did, you probably shouldn't be doing it. First you should go ask them politely. And then if you have to, as last resort call the cops. I have, and have many friends in college, and have had parties myself. It's not my fault that other people aren't nocturnal creatures. But if someone would have asked me, or most of the people I know to turn their music down, they would have, especially if it was late at night. You probably do things that bother them too. But you don't see them calling the cops on you because you are annoying. Just reading your question and other peopl'es answeres pissis me off, and will affect me not getting as much sleep as i would have. But that's still no reason to call the cops.

where I live, the law is that you have to turn down stereos and parties by 11:30 PM or so. if you go over to their place and ask them to stop, they probably won't because they're wild, crazy, drunk college students. if you call the cops you can keep it confidential, but they might suspect that it's one of their neighbors who called the cops.

don't let people like that take away time from your sleep. sleep is very important.

you could try ear plugs in the meantime... the kind that mold into the shape of your ear canal actually block out almost all sound. the only problem is that you can't hear an alarm clock in the morning :P

My old college neighbors would have parties until all hours as well. I called the police on them more than once. The thing is, loud parties after a certain time (usually 11 pm) are violating the noise ordinance. They can be fined and, depending on the terms of their lease, evicted. Call the police and tell them you wish to remain anonymous. There's nothing the neighbors can do, other than pay the fine or be quiet. Good luck.

My experiences in college were similar.
Do you have a common area thats more quiet...
like a student lounge?

I used to sleep in my student lounge when the parties were too loud...then when the security folks would wake me...I'd just tell them the party next door was too loud and they would escort me back to my room and talk to the neighbors...

If your neighbors are decent kids...you might want to try asking them to turn their music down first...
If they refuse or turn up the volume, then it's time to involve the authorities...

Good luck with your studies.

Buy ear plugs or confront them in a talk the next day and explain the problem.
