Depends. In undergraduate studies, there are set classes that you have to complete before you can even apply to veterinary schools. If you get them completed in 1 year, then you can apply. Most people take 3-4 years of undergraduate college.
Veterinary school is a 4 year program. Usually 2.5years of classes and 1.5years of clinical rotations.
If you apply for veterinary school and do not get accepted your first try, don't be afraid to try again. I have a friend who just applied for the 4th time, and got in this time.

In Victoria to become a veterinarian you usually have to study veterinary science at university. To get into the course you need to pass your VCE and prerequisite subjects (e.g. english, mathematical method, physics and chemistry are normally required). It takes 5 years full time to complete a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne (Parkville Campus).

In my state it's 8 years. But we do have a loop hole, If you complete some required classes while in high school then it cuts down on your time in college. And Vet. Schools are tough to get into so study hard if this is what you are going for.
