We had lots of animosity toward Johnson and Nixon, mainly because of Vietnam. I remember marching in the streets chanting "Hey Hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?" But we liked LBJ because of his domestic policies.

Of course, Watergate opened our eyes to how corrupt politics can be.

But in my experience, no president has incurred so much ire--from both sides of the political spectrum.

Every President is hated untill he leaves office. People talk about how good it was under Clinton but forget he had some people so mad one tried to fly a plane into the Whitehouse while he was in office. He had so many threats he had to close down the street infront of the Whitehouse.

Carter was pretty much dispised while he was in. Reagan was also vilified (heh, how many remember he was suppose to have invented aids), Bush Sr was selling out the country, and now we have a neocon.

But if history holds true, when the next president is taking the oathe of office there will be someone yelling to impeach and what a great job GW did. Happens every turn over.

It is not only Bush, but also Cheney, the corrupt Executive Branch, the corrupt Republican Senate, and corrupt Republican Congress that carry out his agenda of hate and greed - leading the country for 6 years.

Because of them: We are in a stupid war in Iraq. Soon
war will be longer than World War II. We are causing hundreds of deaths every week, we are creating thousands of crippled people every month, we are losing tons of money every day, we are losing world respect, we are losing our military strength, we are torturing people, we are giving money to the rich and greedy while our soldiers and poor are deprived of benefits, our mighty corporations are corrupt and stealing from taxpayers, and our civil rights and laws are being violated. Besides Bush and Cheney - Don Rumsfeld, Tom Delay and Ken Lay are some of the wonderful poster boys we love to hate.

Americans have become lazy and soft, but when the above problems really hit home - then all hell will break out and the people of America will punish the wrong doers.

P.S. - Bill Clinton never sank to the lowly depths of Nixon, Bush or Bush. Republicans have the record on worst leaders.

for some time now it has been routine to hate the sitting president. this has become the job of the presidency, to be hated by one segment of the population or another. call them scapegoat if you will.

"Two very similar-appearing male goats were brought into the courtyard of the Temple in Jerusalem on Yom Kippur as part of the Holy Service of that day. The high priest cast lots for the two goats. One goat was offered as a burnt offering, as was the bull. The second goat was the scapegoat. The high priest placed his hands on the head of the goat and confessed the sins of the people of Israel. The scapegoat was led away and let go in the wilderness according to Leviticus 16:22, although the Talmud adds that it was pushed over a distant cliff."

so you get two old goats, you burn one and send one out into 'the wilderness' (to be preyed up on by wild beasts and public opinion). this process is steeped in Judaic tradition, so as the heirs of Judaism we should rejoice in this practice. through the wonders of modern technology we get to watch, up close, every agonizing minute of the old goat's distress.

i can't wait for the next one. wonder who we'll slaughter next?

Conservatives hated Clinton as much as Liberals hate Bush. There is no difference "except" in that the Liberals have far more control over the media then the Conservatives do.

I think not. Nixon is a close second, but then something fnally got pinned on him. There is still time for that to happen to Bush and then there would simply be no contest - Bush would be World-champion unpopular president.

Lyndon Johnson because of the VietNam war, Richard Nixon because of the VietNam war, Ronald Reagan because of how many people were poor during his administration.
