You are allowed to bring almost anything you want (within reason and as long as it's legal) in your carry-on. I always pack snacks for my kids.

Yes, you can bring almost any type of food on board an aircraft, because most airlines (within the US anyway) don't serve meals. The only real prohibition is that you cannot carryon alcoholic beverages for consumption during the flight.

Yes, and if you are having a long flight its best that you take your own snacks. Meals are few and snacks are skimpy these days. Take sandwitches, sodas, nuts, candy and even pizza. But you have to stow that stuff away and put your table up for takeoff. Them peel it out again and make everyone mad with the smell of your food ...LOL.

I took junk food from calgary to las vegas, but had to finish it on the plane.

YES!!!! One time I took a whole box of lucky charms and capn crunch on the plane. You can bring anything you want that is pre-packaged.
