I don't believe you can convince anyone to do anything ... they make their decisions. BUT what you can do is better then that ... my friend helped me by taking long walks with me. I didn't even know we were exercising in the sense that it was my girlfriend and I gossiping around the block. Then she told me that she appreciated me helping get her motivated. Soon, we were going further and further. I believed I was helping her so it made me feel great and in time, I was losing weight feeling awesome about myself.
The keys for me what not having the focus on me and the time given from a friend. I didn't want the "diet" pressure. She took it all on herself and soon I was losing the weight. She gave me the time. That was a great friend.

You can't convince someone to lose weight. The issue goes deeper than just wanting to eat a lot. There are emotional problems that he/she is dealing with through food. If it wasn't overeating, they would do drugs, or drink, or do some other self-abuse. They have to decide for themselves to do something differently. Something in their thinking has to shift in order for this to occur, and if you make them feel embarrassed about their weight, they won't enjoy being around you. You are really in touchy territory here.

My only other advice is to use the approach that others have suggested---convince them that you need some motivation, and have them help you start an exercise program. Also, make sure you share only healthy foods with them, and set a good example at all times. Maybe you could join Weight Watchers together. All this seems like a lot of inconvenience if you aren't really trying to lose weight yourself, but it would take a lot of dedication to truly help them through all their issues.

Hmm...It sounds like you want your friend to loose weight more than your friend does right now. I would say they should start loosing weight when they feel the need to make the change. Now, if your friend is having medical complications as a result of being overweight, I think this situation is best handled between them and their doctor.

If you buddy up with her and tell her u will lose weight with her and give her someone to be accountable to, that will help. If you don't need to lose weight, just tone up instead of losing weight. That will show that you are her friend and someone who is willing to spend time with her and cares about DOING something about it instead of just talking about it or giving advice. SHE has to decide she wants to lose weight though. If she does not get it in her mind to do it, u r fighting a losing battle, no pun intended.

I sure wish someone could tell me the answer to your question. I've been trying for years to convince a few people I know to take better care of themselves, but it hasn't worked so far. Sometimes they'll agree with you all the way, but simply refuse to do anything about their situation. I find fat people to be very stubborn when it comes to food, as if they care more about eating all the time than they do about their health.

They have to want it for themselves. Maybe they are o.k. with their weight. If you are concerned about their health plan activities that promote an active lifestyle - walking while you talk, tennis, shopping without stopping for treats - park in a distant parking spot, when you pick them up and are out offer them some bottled water you brought along, laugh often .....it burns calories too!!!

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her obesity surgery in India throught the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 55lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

You can't convince someone to lose weight, however, you can go out and do physical stuff with him/her for the fun of it AND BY THE WAY...DON'T MENTION YOU'RE DOING PHYSICAL STUFF TO HELP THEM LOSE WEIGHT. That's embarrassing.

there really isn't much you can do unless the person your refering to, wants to lose the weight. you can encourage eating healthy foods by picking healthy foods to eat around them, and encouraging them to exercise , by inviting them to walk with you. but they have to want to lose the weight for anything to really be effective.
