I just baked with an egg from a batch that I bought about 4 weeks ago. Will the brownies make me sick if I used an egg this old?

You can check the egg by gently dropping it into a glass of fresh, cold water. If it sinks to the bottom and stays there, it's still good. If it goes to the bottom but stands on the pointed end, its good but should only be used for baking. If it floats to the top it has gone bad. This happens because eggs become more porous as the age, allowing air to enter the egg and causing it to float.

I buy eggs from an egg farm and they say they are good for one month. Do not leave eggs in the door because they get warm there. I think my Grandpa told me that if an egg floats in water or something like that, it is bad.

Raw eggs maintain their freshness for 4-5 weeks after purchase if kept refrigerated continuously.
