OCD, as mentioned in above answers, involves obsessive thoughts or complusive behaviors or both- like the compusive NEED to flick the light switch on and off 17 times before leaving a room or the unyeilding image of a loved one dying in a car crash. Failure to perform the compulsive behavior or think the obsessive thought results in extreme anxiety.

Being overly neat or tidy is often referred to as being obsessive- complusive but this is simply an example of psychological jargon being mistakenly used in everyday language (like the word psychotic). However, Obsessive-Complusive Personality Disorder, which is a much different disorder than OCD, may possibly account for the need to be excessively neat and tidy as well as other behaviors.

That is a tough question as the answer can be almost anything. The pattern starts with a person obsessive thought about a certain matter. This can be anything from germs, forgetting something, worry of a loved one, ect. The obsession creates anxiety and a loss of control. In trying to reduce the anxiety, they create habits called compulsions.
I guess the tendency of an obsessive compulsive would be whatever helps ease the anxiety. It is usually an action that is repeated over and over again, even if they know the habits/ritual make no sense.

being a clean freak, obsessing or going nutty over a particular small thing, like a guys wife not shutting the cap to the toothpaste, my bf does this by the way, very annoying. that would be Borderline obsessive compulsive though, full blown would be down on the floor scrubbing the entire kitchen floor with a toothbrush

I blink alot (I do positioned on contacts)... And sparkling my throat alot. i'm no longer truly a perfectionist.. purely a freak of nature. I had worse quirks while i became in junior extreme.. This sounds loopy, even even though it became a "superstitious component"... i might do issues 7 circumstances, or i became afraid that if i did no longer, i might get my era (which i became SOOO scarred of having.) Do I sound loopy or what?? finally the "rag" got here, and that i've got been given over maximum of my quirks as I elderly.

Repeating behaviors, washing their hands over and over, touching something over and over, counting something over and over, fear of germs, stuff like that.
