Well, as of April 1, 2000, there were approximately 281,421,906 people in the United States. Now, six years later....I have absolutely no clue. I know that in Prescott, Arizona, population has gone from 25,000 up to 85,000 (that is a tri-city total however), so figure that every state has increased, population has to be well over 500,000,000 by now! Consider NYC....they have well over 1,000,000 people there! Just a tad too many people personally.

Round about 300 million (300x10^6). Average population per state is then (300000000/52) 5.77 million (5770000). understand.
