I live in an apartment that's not very safe so I don't want to go walking, I just had a baby 2 1/2 months ago and I'm breastfeeding. Can anyone give me advice to lose weight? Maybe some workout moves that are afective that I can do in my living room. Or any foods I can eat that is safe for my baby.

as a new mom too (2 1/2 week old and 13 month old) I can relate. Breastfeeding burns 500 calories a day so that helps. However, as far as diet goes I would reccomend a book called 80/10/10 it breaks up your food intake so that you don't deprive yourself from sweets (1 part of the 10) and the book has tons of recipes. An y excercise you can do at home would be ideal as it's hard to take out a baby. The best cardio for an apartment is jumping rope. It doesn't take up much space and it burns tons of calories, and best thing is a full body workout. At this point you can eat almost anything however be concious of high mercury content of fish which can come out in your breast milk and still be harmful. My best post baby diet tricks are egg whites only, Parkay brand spray butter, carrot sticks and string cheese. I lost my baby weight for both pregnancies this way in 2 weeks. First pregnancy 49 lbs, second 20 lbs. good luck...

Congrats on your new baby!!! You should not diet to lose weight while you breast feed. Just eat health. Eat 5-6 small meals a day and plenty of water, milk, juice, (stay away from caffeine). Keep taking your prenatal vitamins too.Remember you are eating for two. Try and stay away from junk foods. If you stay on a healthy eating plan you should not gain any weight and eventually you'll lose what you need to . You can also do exercise with your baby. There are videos that show you how to do this. Stretching is good.

Avoid fish because its contains mercury levels that may be unsafe for your child. Turbo Jam and Tae Bo are some quality workout videos.

Workout videos are great, especially when you don't want to head out to the gym or go walking outside. Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds is great! You can do it right in your living room! Also try to do some Kegal exercises to strengthen your core. Breastfeeding also burns alot of calories, so you'll lose weight fast if you watch what you eat and exercise. Don't restrict your calories too much though, remember you're eating for 2! As far as food is concerned, don't eat anything spicy...it makes babies colicky. Eat alot of foods high in calcium such as spinach and broccoli, and drink low-fat milk. Hope this helps!

My friend quickly lost massive amounts of weight just after giving birth. I think it was a combination of breast feeding, eating healthfully, and simply taking care of the baby. Carrying her up and down 3 flights of stairs with a stroller and diaper bag was a big workout in and of itself. I constantly see her walking around with the baby on her hip, running after her, and using her arm and stomach muscles to lift her into the air. Be active with your baby, and eat mostly veggies -- the colorful ones are the most nutritious, and you can eat as much as you want without packing on the pounds, provided you don't douse them in butter, oils, and cheeses. Almonds are a great source of healthy protien and oils, and can be used to add flavor to salads, as can dried fruits like raisins and cranberries. Buy some workout tapes -- I know there are some good yoga videos for pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Mostly, use your common sense and enjoy this time with your baby. I know that I have lost the most weight when I've been doing things that are productive and that make me happy. Confidence and pride in yourself are key to losing weight.

Tae bo is an excelent cardio work out, and it tones your body as well. If you have a good excercise program to do while you lose the baby weight, it will help to keep you from getting stretch marks.
