my beautiful 2 year old cat died this morning. i want to know what caused it. last night he didnt get out of his bed at all bf and i thought maybe he had a cold or a tummy ache and said we would take him to the vet in the morning, he was having trouble walking and his tummy looked a bit bigger than usual, but this morning i got up and found him lying on the floor with very watery feoces half in and out, also there was some clear gooey stuff coming out of his mouth he had already passed. What could have caused this? he was so young and this came very unexpectedly he was fine the day before yesterday. Any suggestions??

So sorry to hear this. I know your kitty was loved while he was with you. Was he current on his vaccinations? This could have been an infection called FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) and it is many times fatal. Please don't blame yourself. Cats can be quite fragile at times and they have a bad habit of not showing they are sick. Instead they will just hide. Whenever one of my cats is hiding or antisocial it raises a red flag for me and I monitor him closely. Sorry again for your loss.

I am so sorry. I know how terrible you must feel. I think he probably ingested a poison or something very toxic. Don't blame yourself. You will probably never know the exact cause. If he was an outdoor cat it could be anything. If he was an indoor cat he may have had a parasite or worms. I am sending you my thoughts and prayers.Try to keep your close friends around to help you through this time. God bless you.

Oh my dear, I am so sorry! I don't have an answer for you, but it sounds like maybe he ate something toxic. I'm sure a vet will be able to guess, if you don't ask them to do an exam of the poor thing before putting him to rest. I'm so sorry for you - what a terrible thing to go through! So, I would talk to your vet about it, see what they have to say about what may have happened and how to prevent something like this again in the future if you get another kitty.

If you like most cat owners leave your cat roam, POISON! No one wants your pet but, when you leave it roam, you get what you get! It's not the cat's fault, it is yours!!!!! I hope this is not your case but, most cat owners assume it is natural for the cat to roam. A cat is under the same restrictions as a dog, there is a leash law, you are responsible for containing your animal. No one wants to take care of it and no one wants it irritating their pets or hanging around their house. Not all people are pet lovers and even those that are become irritated with other peoples animals that are loose and some times don't even know who they belong to. I keep my little dog penned (in a fenced yard) and on a leash to protect him and it is my responsibility to take care of him. It is not right that my dog poop in some one elses yard and I leave it, it is not right that a CAT uses a neighbors flower bed for a litter box, just think if you do not own a cat and you stick your hand in a pile (at your own home) , what would you do? I hope this isn't your case but, cats and dogs are out of control and the owners want to blame some one else! I love my pet and I am sure you loved yours too, take responsibility for them. Sorry and Take Care of your pet.

mineownenemy brought up a good point, ANTI - FREEZE, it may have even been by accident (or maybe not). It is not a persons reponsibilty to make sure a stray cat stays out of a puddle of LEAKING Anti-Freeze in their own drive! Another reason to take care of your little pet!!!!!!!
When a animal is poisoned you can not prove who did it unless someone seen it, SOME people today are very evil, MOST are not, be careful if you accuse someone.

Ya know, everytime I post this it brings things to mind, one person says "better luck with your next pet" ??????? Seems like most all think poison, it is a terrible thing to do but it is what happens. Another says "IF HE WAS AN OUT DOOR CAT"? What the heck???? There shouldn't be such thing, Cat or Dog! OUT DOOR means what? ALL THE NEIGHBORS ARE RESPONSIBLE????? Come On! I won't say "better luck with your next pet", I will just say "love and take responsible care of your next pet" I pray it all comes out good for you.

I hope the felinefanatic keeps her cats in or on a leash, it is a nessessary thing to do! Cats nor Dogs should roam freely!!!!! AND I do love animals and wouldn't harm them BUT, I understand and have been in a multiple neighbor feude over this. NOT MUCH FUN when you almost sell your house because of people that won't be responsible for their pets. And this is not directed at you LaTn_ChIcK, just those that know who you are!!!!!!!

Sweetie, this sounds like worms. Did you take him to the vet often, was his bowel movements normal? History of problems in family, like cat's mom and dad? What did you feed him, hopefully not milk as this can give them worms? I am an avid pet lover, so my deepest sympathy...:(

Sounds like he was poisoned. Do you have any plants in your home? Can you think of anything else that he may have ingested? Or it could've been an intestinal infection. I'm sorry about your kitty.

It sounds like poison or snake/insect venom. Your Vet could probably find out.
