Jesus died on a Wednesday. 3-days is equal to 72 hours, so if Jesus died Wednesday at 3pm, the third day is Saturday. He arose on Sunday, that is, 3-days after he died which means that the teaching that Jesus died Friday is wrong!

What a great observation!
This is actually part of Catholic dogma and is wrong.
In Hebrew culture, the Sabbath can be a Saturday... or any Holy day. If you remember, Jesus ate with his disciples on Passover. This is DEFINITELY a High Holy day for Jews. That's when he sat with his disciples at 'the last supper'. They ate the passover meal of bitter herbs, motza and grape juice (not wine) and where the Communion ceremony comes from. That would have been a Wednesday from what I remember.
After dinner, he went to Gethsemane to pray. This is when it got really bad for Jesus. He knew what was coming and he sweat blood. Anyway, Judas came around and led the Sanhedrin police to him around 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM in the morning. That would have been a Thursday morning. He went through 5 (I think... it may have been 6) rigged trials where he was beaten and finally led to Golgotha around 9:00 AM on Thursday.
He was crucified.
Then it went dark for 3 hours.
The Sanhedrin told the Roman guard to kill Jesus and the 2 criminals with him because Jews would be unclean if they touched dead bodies on Sabbath eve, which the next day would have been.
So he died around 4:00 or 5:00 PM on Thursday.
You must also remember that a Hebrew day isn't from midnight to midnight. A Hebrew day starts at 6:00 PM. It goes from 6:00 PM til 6:00 PM. That's why when you look in Genesis, you'll see the phrase, "And the evening and the morning were the first day", etc.
So.....
Jesus was taken off the cross and laid in Joseph's tomb around 7:00 or 8:00 PM Thursday evening.
7:00 PM Thur
7:00 PM Fri
7:00 PM Sat
He was not found in his tomb when Mary and Mary showed up Sunday morning. When did he arise and leave the tomb? Sometime between 7:00 PM Sat and Sun morning.
He said that he would be in the grave for 3 days like Jonah and he was. (Jonah didn't live in that fish by the way. He died and God brought him back to life. Read Jonah 2 VERY closely paying attention to ver 5 - 7.... but I digress).
So you're right. Only God (and some old pope) knows here Good Friday comes from. It was probably a way to bring the folks in to play Bingo and pay for some indulgences!
PLEASE forgive me if some of these facts are wrong, I'm doing this from memory. Just remember this my friend....
WHEN WHAT YOU'RE BEING TAUGHT IN CHURCH DIFFERS FROM WHAT YOU READ IN THE BIBLE, THE BIBLE WINS!

Gee, I am confused now.First of all how do we know what day they hung Jesus on the cross cause I thought the calender wasn't invented until later. Oh well, Lets see, if he died and was buried and then he supposedly came back to life 3 days later ,OK then he must have been decomposed some what so I guess this spirit just kinda came up and out of this body huh, yet when I say I believe in the afterlife of spirits people say I am crazy. OK now where was I , oh yea, no way could a man live in the belly of a fish ( Whale) for any amount of time. So, on T.V. they said that Jesus was a man and Jonah his brother would follow these women that were rich around and live off of them so they could preach and not work to make money and then the Romans got sick of him tying to brainwash people and killed him.Now I would say he died on a day maybe like our Friday and then they took his body off the cross after they killed him cause back then people were scared he might be a witch and curse them and then they buried him with his buddies. Then someone dug him up and put him in that cave the next day where Mary talked to him and he said "I'll be back". Yep , your right it's 2 days ! I guess it's kinda like Bush said, Thats fuzzy math eh !

You are correct. The answer is very complicated and I will only try to refer to how it may be found. First God has a calendar. It's not the "Jewish" calendar, it's God's and much of it is revealed in Leviticus 23. Now the reason it's important to know that is that the Jews were using that calendar in Jesus' time here and in the so-called gospel accounts it's important to understand how to figure backwards to know what day of the week everything was happening on. He died on a Wednesday evening. Right about at sunset. to the same time on Thursday is 1, from then to Friday is 2, so the next 24 hours takes us to Saturday evening at sunset. Now you'll notice in Genesis 1 that the Bible says, "and the evening and the morning was the first day". So we know that God starts a new day at sunset. The Friday death thing is a very old and persistent catholic teaching.

In that time, even part of a day was counted as a whole day, so Friday= 1 day, Saturday = 2 days, Sunday= 3 days. He did rise three days after his death.
"[A]ccording to early Jewish time-reckoning, any part of a day counted as a full day. Jesus was in the tomb Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and on Sunday morning-- under the way the Jews conceptualized time back then, this would have counted as three days." Tradition says so & it is wrong. Good catch BuckarQQ. Jesus said, "No sign will be given this generation, except the sign of Jonah. As Jonah was in the belly of the fish 3 days & 3 nights, so shall the Son Of Man be in the belly of the earth." There were 2 Sabbaths in this week, 1. The Passover and the normal 2. Friday sundown till Saturday sundown. Jesus was slain on the eve before Passover (Jewish days start at sundown) and they had to have Him buried before sundown, or violate the Law Of Moses. Jesus said 3 days & 3 nights, this = 72 hours. Jesus also said, "By your traditions, you make the Word Of God of none effect." He died on Wednesday before sundown, till Thursday before sundown= 1 day. Thursday before sundown till Friday before sundown= 2 days. Friday before sundown till Sat before sundown= 3 days. When the women came before sunrise, early Sunday morning, He was already risen. This is how Bible Teachers in Seminary taught my generation in the 60's & 70's. Here you get the 72 hours that Jesus said He had to be in the tomb. I really enjoyed your question, it shows that you have a mind that seeks the Truth & gives me the opportunity to show so many "Traditional Thinkers" that God's Word "Says what It means & means what it says." God Bless, "B."

"where in the bible does it say He died on friday ?"
62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.
Preparation day is Friday. It was not called Friday until centuries later.

When the romans counted intervals, they included the first and last item. In this case, the time from friday to sunday would constitute three days as a roman would count them.
Just some food for thought.

A good foundation (1Tim.6:19) has solid ground evidence. The foundation should include 2Tim.3:16; Isaiah 28:9-10; 2Peter 1:19-21; 1Thess.5:20-21 & Ephes.5:9-10,13. To understand deeply--you must use these websites:

If you read Daniel 9:27; it says "he died in the middle of the week"; that would be Wednesday. This is followed by "3 days & 3 nights" = Matthew 12:40 which equals 1-24hr.day x 3days equals 72hrs. in grave. Next the Bible tells us it would be "after 3days and "not before = Matt.27:63-64 and Mark 8:31. It tells us in three days (John 2:19-21) and not after. The Bible also reminds us a day is 12hrs. not including the night(John 11:9-10). Remember also Gen.1:5 and Lev.23:32 tells us "evening to evening" is considered to be a day.

Now I know this is true because the MAJORITY(Matt.7:13) is always wrong. Also there's many clues that it wasn't a Friday crucifixion and a Sunday resurrection; look at 2Tim.2:18. But you will point out Mark 16:9 which says "Now when Jesus was risen[the perfect tense is correct here--he was already risen] early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene." Now the original Greek didn't have no punctuation. If the King James translators put a comma after the word "risen" and not after "week", this would make complete sense. The Centenary Translation renders it this way: "Now after his resurrection, early on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene."
