First of all the Holy Spirit must be dealing with your heart and you will know. You ask Him to forgive you of all the wrong you have done and really mean it, you will know that He is there, He will come and live inside your heart and you will be a brand new person. God Bless you.

By believing in him completely. Confessing with your mouth and heart your belief and all your sins. By having faith that your sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ. He is there because through this you are saved from Hell and he will never forsake you (leave you). The Holy Spirit resides within you always! You know he's there by believing he is there. Being saved isn't a feeling, it's knowing all the time. There will be times when nothing is seeming to happen and you don't feel him, but he is there. These will be the times that Satan will take advantage and say to you that you aren't really saved, and so on. Don't believe the lies and deception of Satan. Good works don't save you. You could be the best human being in the world to everyone, but without the faith of God through Jesus Christ you won't have eternal life with him. You must believe and know you are a sinner and you always will be, but the love for Jesus will make you strive towards perfection. When you sin and you will, have faith that you are still always and forever loved, and repent of your sin and try not to sin anymore. Although you still will sin, just keep doing this and really mean it, and you will be forgiven.

All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you of all your sins. And yes, after you get saved you will screw up just like the rest of us but that is what God's mercy is for. He will forgive you for anything you do. All you have to do is ask. Also you can know that he is there because you can pray for anything and He will give it to you. All you have to do is believe. It's all in the Bible. The one main thing you should do is read the Bible and tithe. If you tithe faithfully, I promise you, you will never be short on cash. I tithe every week even when I don't really have the money and I always wind up with lots of extra money.

this is a really awesome question and the answer believe it or not is simple:you will just know. you will know the second you receive him into your life. you just feel differently. you do not feel dirty anymore. you have more confidence within yourself.you know he's there when you are going to church not only on Sunday but Wednesday and Friday too. others things like going to the club just disappear out your mind and you don't miss any of it. like i said in the beginning it is very simple you will definitely know. i hope you find that peace with Jesus Christ.

By praying.
By opening your heart to God.
By acknowledging Jesus Christ as God.
By acknowledging that what separates you from God is the sin in your life.
By asking Christ to forgive you and remove that sin from your heart and your whole being.
And asking Christ to be your new Leader in life and your Savior.
Then start listening--he'll let you know that he is there.

In the salvation of man's soul there are 2 necessary parts: God's part and man's part. God's part is the big part, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift if God; not of works, that no man should glory" (Ephesians 2:8-9). The love which God felt for man led him to send Christ into the world to redeem man. The life and teaching of Jesus, the sacrifice on the cross, and the proclaiming of the gospel to men constitute God's part in salvation.
Though God's part is the big part, man's part is also necessary if man is to reach heaven. Man must comply with the conditions of pardon which the Lord has announced. Man's part can clearly set forth in the following steps:
Hear the Gospel. "How shall they call on him whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14).
Believe. "And without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him" (Hebrews 11:6).
Repent of past sins. "The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent" (Acts 17:30).
Confess Jesus as Lord. "Behold here is water; What doth hinder me to be baptized ? And Philip said, if thou believeth with all thy heart thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:36-37).
Be baptized for the remission of sins. "And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).
Live a Christian life. "Ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

If you believe that he is the son of God then you have accepted him into your life. That is the way to know he is there.

You do that by becoming Christ-like and living the philosophy not merely professing it. You'll know it when they hang you on the cross.

Repent and be baptised in His name. Follow His will and abide in His love. Have faith in His presence and in His glory.
If you love Christ and you love others then you will know He is there.
