CutePDF is a free PDF creater s/w. It creates a PDF file from any kind of document that could be printed. CutePDF sits as a printer in your system. In Microsoft Word, you shall open the .doc file and click print in the File menu. Now choose CutePDF as the printer. You'll be prompted to enter the PDF file name and the folder to save. After doing so, CutePDF creates the PDF file in that folder with the name you have given.
However CutePDF requires Ghostscript (a freeware under GNU General public license), to be available in your system. You shall get CutePDF from here, http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp.
Ghostscript is avilable at, http://www.cutepdf.com/download/converter.exe.
Hope this helps.
