I am trying to lose weight and avoid diabetes, type 2. Snack ideas would be nice too.

Put some rolled oats with the soy milk and microwave (take a shower while it's cooking!).

Add some cinnamon or grated apple.

A soy milk smoothie is a goodie too - you can have some fruit in this as long as you use soy milk, not cow's milk. Berries are a "super food" full of antioxidants. I put in a spoon of soy yoghurt too. LSA mix (Linseed, sesame seed and almond) is great too - a little protein burst there.

I also add magnesium powder to my smoothies as it helps balance my blood sugar levels. You can't taste it!

i am insulin resistant as well. i find a low-carb breakfast keeps me from getting hungry. eggs are the best. if you drink juice, keep the portion small. for fruit, stick to low sugar fruits such as apples, grapefruit, berries. bananas and grapes are very high in sugar.

as far as snacks go, a handful of almonds pack a powerful protein punch with a lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals.
