I totally agree. People should read the Bible if they are going to question it, praise it, or reject it. Then they are basing their decisions on what they KNOW rather than what they think they percieve.

I was a practicing Christian for over thirty years, read the bible more than once, and my grandfather was a Baptist preacher. Additionally, I've studied religions and history.
But, all that aside, there are literally over 10,000 unique Christian cults in the US alone, so anyone who claims he really "knows the truth" is not being quite honest because what he really means is "here is my personal opinion."
No one knows what the bible "really means," so any opinion is just as valid as any other. And that includes all the bible thumpers of any kind, regardless of education, credentials or followers.
The bible is a book of mythology and given the fact it confuses far more people than it edifies, if it was even remotely true, it was inspired by Satan, not God.
But, it is a book of mythology, so it doesn't matter.
Additional comment:
I am a veteran of the US Army and I never heard anyone mention God or religion in a positive light. "Take it to the Chaplain" was a grave insult and indicated cowardice or weakness. The lie about "No atheists in foxholes" is just that, another Christian inspired and promoted lie. And we know who the father of lies is, don't we?

Who the hell are you. You are the type of person that give christianity a bad name. What right do you have to get on a soap box and tell people how to live and what to believe.
I have a relationship with god and have turned my back on religion because of idiots like you. How do you know that what you are taught is correct. Maybe you just let some preacher man dictate to you what they think is real.
Grow some balls and study the word on your own free from the brain wash of man. I have found that MAN lies GOD does not.
As far as your little TNT comment, lets just say I have driven a (class I) explosive. TNT is a (class II) explosive. I am still alive with/ and with out prayer.
911 happened for a reason. Was it because God allowed it to happen, or was it because of some random cosmic force.

no, i havent read the bible. nor do i quote from the bible or claim to know what is said or written in the bible. nor would i be so pretentious as to assume that the english translation of the bible is remotely accurate as to the originally intended meanings. nor would i assume for one second that every author, apostle, etc., who contributed a book, verse, etc., to the compilation (that is known today simply as "the bible" by most but is actually not only two separate compilations in and of themselves [new and old testaments] but also each compilation is in fact a collection of many much smaller 'books') has composed a complete, accurate, literal documentary regarding events at the time.
i think it is entirely possible that many biblical passages were meant to be interpreted metaphorically and not literally. i also think it is entirely possible that words have been mangled in the translation, and that entire sections may have even been left out of the original compilations while other sections may have been included that should instead have been left out or, if nothing else, submitted as a mere afterthought or allegory rather than as absolute eyewitness accounts or concrete evidence of events.
so, while i feel i share a strong spiritual connection with the creator of the universe, and while i feel that the life of jesus christ was in fact an important and integral function of this divine creator, i do not pretend for one second to know anything for sure about the creator, or christ, or heaven or hell. nor should anyone else. because after all, the bible is a book, and books are written by human beings, not divine creators. when have you ever known a human being, any human being, to be absent of all errors, lies, exaggerations, opinions, ignorance, and/or delusions?
i have faith in the creator of all things, and i have faith in that my life will be blessed by this creator so long as i abide by the universal laws of ethical behavior and common decency. beyond that i assume nothing, and anyone who claims to know anything about the creator, the afterlife, or the life of christ, for absolute undisputable fact, i can only assume is a pompous, boastful idiot.

Hmm. I wonder what rant smh was on? Oh well.
I agree. Taking things from the Bible out of context is like walking into the middle of a movie and leaving before it is over. No way are you ever going to truly know what the movie was about.
People are cavalier about what they don't understand purely because of fear, which is the currency Satan deals in. If he causes fear and confusion in someone's heart, he has a better chance of retaining that person in his kingdom.
1 Peter 5:7: Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (NIV)
There is a saying in the military: When you are in a fox hole, everyone is a Christian.
I, like you, prefer a serious spiritual discussion, not ignorant, malicious, thoughtless posts.

Read the Bible? Of course I do... I've read it 3 times and my first time finishing it was when I was 9 or 10. So... what do you mean by that?
PS. I don't think that you should be criticizing people like that. Maybe you're trying to help, but we should be gently correcting one another. How about some encouragement to read the Bible instead?

Scary isn't it?
And the ones who do claim to have read "parts" of the bible, still don't understand what they are reading.
Randomly picking verses from here or there to TRY and prove a point.
What do you think they will say when God asks?

In fairness, the same could be said by others in return ... as many believers condemn the non-faith based teachings and concepts without even remotely understanding them. The door swings both ways ...

Take the log out of your own eye, brother. This is probably the most judgmental post I have ever read here. I have read the Bible, you need to reread the first part of Matthew 7, for it DEFINITELY applies here.
