It depends on the specific type of cancer you are trying to avoid. Colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer...they all originate in different body parts, develop differently, their clinical coarse is different, and their treatments are different. Every type of cancer looks different under the microscope, and should really be considered a separate disease. It would be easier if you picked one type of cancer that you were most concerned about. But in general, here are a few suggestions.
Good things:
-fiber
-antioxidants
-water
Avoid:
-Cigarettes (I hope you're not eating these anyway),
-Alcohol (yes, linked to esophageal cancer).
-Be cautious with cold-water fish (like salmon) as they can contain high concentrations of some toxic organic compounds and metals, but 1-2 servings per month is probably good for you.
-charred meats
-packaged meats with nitrates
(Despite what others have written, cancer does not care what your pH is. The pH of your blood, for example is alkaline, but leukemia thrives in blood. Be careful not to lump all cancers into one group.)

Diet does have an influence on cancer. Eat cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli and cabbage (cole slaw). Carrots are extremely important also. Fresh (raw) is best. Make sure they have been properly washed and stored in the fridge. Fresh fruits are good also. Watermelon is exceptional, because it helps the body stay flushed. Oranges are very good for the vitamin C. Eat plenty of grapes and bananas for the potassium they contain. Eat fresh salmon, broiled or baked. Most meats that have been charred on a grill or charred in a skillet are not healthy for the digestive system. Fresh squeezed or juiced fruits are better than the bottled variety, no presevatives or added sugar. Drinking green tea is also benificial. Drink it hot, or iced, it's good either way. If you can, get it from a chinese distributer. Don't by the bottled kind, it has all sorts of presevatives in it.
Have a colonscopy every 5 years. (Lighter side of a colonoscopy, you can make really anal jokes and you can make your endoscopist chuckle, he can even tell you a couple, blush) Colon Cancer is the easiest to diagnose, but once you get to stage 4, you are in serious trouble.
These criterion are not dietary, but they are crucial in prevention of most types of cancer.
Do not allow yourself to be overworked or harassed. Do not allow depression to set in, do not become overtired get plenty of sleep and fluids (preferably water). Do not jeapordize your immune system. Anxiety and stress are suppressors. Once the immune system is suppressed the body no longer recognizes the abnormal division of cells and the changing DNA patterns in the mutated abnormal cells. Remember this is your body and the immune system needs to be healthy enough to reconginze when cells are becoming abnormal.
I could go on for quite a while, but (shudder) google or Yahoo Cancer nutrition sites and they can add to my list. Good Luck and take care.

The National Cancer Institute allows the following health claim: "a cup of miso soup a day lowers the risk for breast cancer in women by 50%." This is just the tip of the iceburg. We know that eating carotenoid rich vegetables, and antioxidant rich fruits go very far in preventing the risk of cancer.

you also need lots of anti-oxidants. mostly found in grapes but also try to get into juicing fruits and veggies and go organic as much as possible when it comes to foods in general. OMega 3s also found in fish but you can supplement in general with vitamins on that one. Also drink orange juice for the immune system, and a glass of wine every now and then. Stay away from milk and beef that is low quality, you want something that hasnt been injected with hormones. Excercise and a positive outlook on life are also BIG factors.

Yes, keep the ph of you body on the alkaline side around or less than 7, eat foods from the alkaline group moreso than from the acidic group. Get on the internet and check it out. Cancer cant live in an alkaline system.

If you're going to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, wash them thoroughly. Do not eat charred meat. Do not eat or drink sugar. It is a very powerful immune suppressant. Many forms of cancer are thought to be the final result of suppression of the natural immune system.

Fruits and vegetables. A wide variety, preferably raw and organic. Particularly the five most common types of berries, citrus fruits, apples, mangoes, pinneapples, papaya, carrots, spinach, kale, broccoli sprouts, red cabbage, yellow onions, garlic, pomegranate. Soak raw organic nuts (almonds and walnuts in particular) in water for 24 hours and lay them out to dry. Get enough omega -3 fatty acids. Wild caught alaskan red salmon is high in omega-3's and an antioxidant called astaxanthin. Neptune Antarctic Krill oil is also an excellent source. Mix freshly ground flaxseed and cold-pressed flaxseed oil with cottage cheese. Eat organic tomato sauces and pastes with healthy fat like olive oil or avacado. Try to get enough vitamin b17 in fruit pits and kernels. Drink coffee, green and black tea and red wine (pinot noir from cool rainy climates). Eat whole grains. Avoid processed foods, sugar, white bread and pasta and soda. Cooking destroys 100% of a foods enzymes so your body has to make enzymes to digest them - enzymes that your body needs for other things. Raw foods have all the enzymes in them that you need to digest them. Green drinks with organic grass powders and blue-green algae are very cleansing. And get enough minerals.

eat lots of salmon, blueberries, strawberries, spinach, broccoli, kale, sweet potatoes or yams, lean meat not charred and drink green tea regularly, along with a little dark chocolate.
Simple rule - If your meals are fresh high quality foods with lots of fruits and vegetables and when you look at your plate you see at least 3-4 bright colors at each meal, then you are probably eating the correct foods to help you avoid developing cancer.
