there is only about a 5% chance of a genetic problem if you commit incest with a direct relative, it shrinks as you go into first, second, and so on, cousins. To say that DNA is less pure now then it was is showing how little one knows about DNA. Really to take the story of adam and eve litterally would involve throwing out the existance of DNA. An easy example, if the story of Noahwas true then sin and wickedness already existed and was rampant. At this point DNA would be corrupt from the evil in the world. To say it wasnt evil enough would be incorrect. It must have been more evil than today or God would have flooded the world now and not back then. So, for Noahand kin to repopulate the world, either it didnt really happen, it created a world full of mutants from constant inbreeding, or their DNA was pure because they were good people. If you belive that then today, a family can inbreed for generations and generations without problem if they remain good and holy......yeah.

When God created Adam and Eve, their DNA was pretty much perfect, no diseases or anything. So, yeah, Adam's many sons and daughters had sex with each other. Their children had sex with sisters/cousins. This was okay at the time for 2 reasons:
1 There was no one else
2 The DNA was still pure, so there's no chance of passing on recessive genes.
It wasn't until later that God passed on the law to Moses against incest, probably because by that time man's DNA had gotten bad enough so it was dangerous.
And yeah, there's plenty of other people around, why go with a sib? That's icky now.

Not "ewwww." It was necessary, really. After all, technically, when you lay with a person of the opposite sex, you are laying with a relative. Everyone is related through Adam & Eve. Plus, God gave the law preventing incest in the times of Moses. There is actually a good genetic reason for this. The thing is that back then, people were less imperfect, they had less genetic mistakes which would mean that relatives could lay with one another without risking a deformed baby. Nowadays, the closer the relatives, the more likely they are going to pass on similar mistakes to the child, which will express those mistake alleles.
(Oh, and Cain didn't "take" a wife in the land of Nod, he "knew" his wife. This means to have sexual relations, so his wife would have been his sister)

First off, if you claim to be a Christian and yet deny that Adam and Eve were real people, then you need to read 1 Corinthians 15, which clearly distinguishes Adam as a real man and compares him to Jesus Christ as a real man. You see, if you don't believe Adam was a real man, then you can't logically believe that Jesus was a real man and you therefore call Scripture a liar and you need to re-examine your claim to Christ.
Second, we know that God stopped creating after Adam and Eve because in Genesis 2, God ceased from his creative work after creating Adam and Eve and in Genesis 3:23, Adam names the woman "Eve" because she "was the mother of all living."
Third, if you create two perfect people, then they have perfect genes which contain all of the traits of the human species. Their genetic potential was so great that they could intermarry and be fine. Further, they could marry sisters and be fine. This would not have been a problem in God's eyes because he commanded that Adam and Eve multiply and fill the earth. And, with a perfect male and female physiology, you can have hundreds of pregnancies with no problem.
Finally, to answer the question directly, incest is only disgusting to us know because God said it should be. In Leviticus 18:6, thousands of years after Adam and Eve, the human gene pool was finally starting to disipate to the point when harmful mutations would begin matching up and producing deformed offspring and God told the Jews not to have sexual relations with close relations anymore.
And to respond to the poster above, true believers in Christ and the true Church will never accept evolution because 1) it's false, 2) it doesn't make any sense, 3) it leads to racism and slavery and 4) it is 100% contrary to Scripture, which is a Christian's final authority.

No, it didn't happen that way. Even the church cannot rationally answer this question.
Adam was the first successful human prototype created through the synthesis of DNA. A sample of DNA was harvested from Adam's rib while he was anesthetized. It was modified and synthesized by computerized accelerated growth techniques into a woman. Many human beings, both male and female, after Adam were created in this way.
This story is preserved in mythology , legends and the bible - when properly demystified.

Yes, more than likely Adam's sons had relations with Adam's daughters. However since they were not far from "perfection" the "genetic" had not "mutated to the degree that it is now. Sister/Brother marriages were very common in OT times.

In Islam, Adam & Eve had sons and daughters, so it was between Adam's children.

006:001 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of
the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
006:002 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were
fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
006:003 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man,
for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred
and twenty years.
006:004 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after
that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men
which were of old, men of renown.
006:005 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil continually.
