lol, illegal immigrants! Hurricane Katrina was something that happened in a matter of days which caused lots of damage, but illegal immigrants have been here for decades and the damage they are causing is long term AND becoming worse. So definetly illegal immigrants. Also, take a look at this site:
http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html
Addressing the user eduarodi, who apparently does not watch the news (interviews of kanye west don't count): before Hurricane Katrina, President Bush WARNED the nation of Hurricane Katrina--some citizens in the areas it was hit by were just too stubborn to care and thought that it wouldn't be half as bad as it turned out. Not only that, but seriously--do you think Bush would be the only one who would know? That's ridiculous.

Pancha there really isn't an comparison. One is man made and one is nature.
What we can prevent damage wise we should.
What we can change by not breaking laws we should, if that is your point.
And it isn't the people who are at fault. Its the law breaking and those who support it that have put a strain on the system.
If we want new laws that we must work to change it. Even if it takes time.
That in no ways means not to help others but it means to help others when you can without breaking laws or values to do so.
Hope I didn't offend you I didn't mean too. Or anyone else. Which it seems I have before. I just believe it is right to hold on to values and yes support laws which have purpose for being there.
I will always help others if I can and it doesn't break my values or what I believe to be the right thing to do. Rather I want to or not. And I will try to change what I don't like the correct way.
I don't like what happened in Katrina and how it was handled but I don't break the laws in protest.
I would feed someone from Mexico if I saw they needed it but I would not protest or defend their breaking the law.

So now we are comparing a natural disaster to illegal immigration? Wow. You people really are loosing your grip on reality here. You already compared this to Superman, and aliens from outer space.. What next? The Ice Age? The extinction of the dinosaurs? Maybe global warming? Besides Katrina isn't a who, it is a thing. The correct terminology should be What did more damage. The answer is still illegal aliens.

Katrina's damage hit all at once, front page news. Illegal Immigrants crept up on us as slyly (is that a word?) as a snake slithering into a better pit, with hardly anyone the wiser, until suddenly the pit is pretty full, and needy, and demanding an even better pit, and then they GET IT. At this rate the rest of us may be left without a pit to hiss in.

Well, I would have to say illegals immigrants. Illegal immigration has been going on for decades and decades and the cost and negative affects on America are constantly going up. The only similarity I can see between the two is that there are people out there who are more than willing to exploit the kindness of America.

Katrina is a natural disaster, Illegal immigrants are criminals. They are not a natural disaster, so definitely the illegal immigrant is causing more damage to law abiding immigrants and American citizens..

I don't see any references there to illegals.
But I'll tell you what I do know. The federal government, after having been accused of waiting too long to bring help, made the money available to victims with no checks and balances whatsoever. When I heard it, I realized that even I, no where near the area, could make a few bucks, but of course I am better than that.
It would be expected the way they did it that abuse would be rampant, it was abundantly obvious that it would happen. But I can tell you considering what that money was supposed to be for, I hope they catch every last one of them and they rot in jail for stealing from vicitms of a natural disaster - that's right up there with stealing from a church box or extorting funds like the mob.

Bush. He let Katrina happen, without telling anyone, so as to at least lessen the damage. And he is encouraging jerks to get violent on illegal people, just as if the USA weren't or hadn't been illegal invaders of Iraq, Afghanistan, Latin America, Germany, and so on, and on, and on...

As I understand it we are talking about a lot more than 1.6 billion with illegal immigrants.
However, one sum of wasted money in an emergency doesn't mean we should overlook other identified areas where programs are misused. Too bad we didn't do better there, too. However, we can only act prospectively.

Illegals. If you count every dollar that was spent on health care, school, public services for every illegal in the past 50 years, you would not imagine how high the bill would be.
