Do not blame yourself for things you cannot control. You cannot control others, nor can you control every event that occurs in your life. Sure you make the decisions that get you to were you are, but every mistake you have made, gets you to where you currently are. The good and the bad. You have to take the bad with the good... for without bad, you cannot have good. It's an equal balance. Forgive yourself for your mistakes, accept the fact that others intervened with your course and helped you continue your path, and never regret what has occurred along the way. Only accept that you cannot change what has been done, but you can change what could be done.

You have an addiction to it. Simply put, an addiction is something you can't stop doing. To say you blame yourself is the same thing as thinking everthing is your fault. These feelings can fall into several theories. The most common ones being victimization, depresssion or egocentrism, which are all very similar. The bottom line is basically low self esteem, which is very different than confidence. With low self esteem, you're putting everyone else on a pedestal while you believe yourself to be on a lower plane, which makes it very easy to blame yourself for everything. In egocentrism, you may believe that all problems somehow have something to do with you. Something you said or did has caused all these problems. This of course is not true as we are all responsible for our own behavior. In victimization, a person always feels like things are happening to them and they have no control over it. They will misconstrue and spin every situation to belive that something, or some bad situation is happening to them without their control over it. The reality is you do have control over it, but over time you have become addicted to this state of existence and will do anything to stay there. Depression is a little bit different, and can be caused by many different reasons. Sometimes it's chemical, sometimes it's a lifes worth of dissapointments that have been suppressed and have finally bubbled up to the surface, and so on. As with any addiction the first step is realizing your addiction, not admitting it, that comes later. When you realize it, then you can deal with it and try to stop the habit. Here's a simple self excercise you can do, but you have to be very aware of your thoughts. When you feel like you're falling into the addiction, laugh, just let out a little giggle or chuckle. This will interrupt the addictive thought process, if only for a few seconds. Laugh everytime, or pinch youself, just do something to interrupt the thought. This is just a basic excercise and is cannot replace therapy. If these feelings are overwhelming and constant, you should see a therapist. Good luck, and don't forget to laugh.

You just made the first step by the question you asked, It appears that you realize that this is what you need to do,(to stop blaming yourself) the question is how?Well,You can't live your life by blaming yourself all the time for problems, or by being hard on yourself, if you did something, own up to it, and make it right, I don't know what type of problems your talking about, but quit being so hard on yourself and learn to forgive yourself, so that you may go on and not feel guilty, that is not a selfish act, it's what is needed in order for you to go on with your life, but if there are issues unresolved, you do need to deal with them,

Realize that it's likely that you are not perfect. Have you met anyone who is?

And so, mistakes and problems are daily occurences.

Best to You... :)
