Been there, done that. Little kids are so afraid that they will miss out on something great by taking a nap. They get so involved with play that they don't want to stop. Sometimes, they get overtired. Keeping to a regular schedule helps along with a consistant naptime routine. Put on some soothing music, read a story, ect.

Like most have said they think they will be missing out on something, but also they may think they are being punished because you are removing them from something they like "not having to sleep". I sometimes trick my daughter on those few occasions when I know she's tired but is resisting to take I nap; I lay down with her and tell her that we are just "resting" and within a few minutes she's out, but it sometimes backfires because I also fall asleep. But then again, that might just be a good thing!

could be a little to do with defiency and wanting to make their own decisions. i belive they do think they'll miss something, but they also want to be like grown ups a little bit and be able to stay up all the time. they dont understand that they need the sleep and its good for them and even if they did. it wouldnt matter, they've got playin to do...

Because life is MUCH too interesting. Sleep is a waste of time to them, when they could be doing much more interesting things.

They might miss something, or so they think. Some grown ups are still that way too.
