Formal Dining:
A small handbag can be placed on the table if there is adequate room. a larger bag should be placed in a spare chair if available. You should never place a purse on the floor. If there is not a extra chair at the table place the purse in your lap or leave it in the car.
Casual dining: Anywhere out of the way, but not on the floor, or hung on the back of your chair.

On my chair next to my leg, my lap - under the napkin, or by my foot. That is why it is important when dining out to only carry a small purse.

When sitting in a booth, on the seat opposite of the isle. When in a chair, hanging on the back but with my body against the strap and my coat over it. If I don't have a coat, it stays in my lap.
I was robbed before so I am really careful. I was dancing and had it over my shoulder and a pick pocket pulled $200 out of it without me ever suspecting! Won't happen again!

Superstition is that you lose money if you leave your purse on the floor, yet it's rude to leave your purse on the table... especially when you don't exactly know where it's been or what it's touched. I leave mine on the chair next to me, usually with one strap on my wrist of the hand I am not using.

If there is room and it's a small clutch - on the table
In a booth - next to me
At a buffet - with me for every trip
Otherwise in my lap or in a spare chair
As much as I pay for my purses, they WILL NOT be on the floor!

My purse is my life sometimes i will let it sit on my lap but most of the time it has to be close to me and in my site, I never put it on the floor

That's really funny you asked that becuase I was just at dinner last night and was noticing how people put it in weird places. I put mine either on the floor or next to me on the chair, but some ppl put it right on the table. I guess if it's nothing formal(like a date) and there is enough room i'd put it on the table, but usually I just like to keep it out of the way.

If there's room on the table and it's a booth, I put it against the wall next to me. Or on teh booth next to me. Or on my lap if I have to. Or an empty chair at my table. Did I mention I hate purses?

I always get on to my wife for leaving her purse at the table while at the buffet. I tell her that someone might steal it. It's a silly little reoccurring argument thing. Lol.

depending the kind of restaurant or place to dine out.
sometimes on another chair next to me, or behind my own chair,
but never on the floor, is bad luck.
