Of course not. That's your personal decision, and you can just politely say, "No, thank you." To go the extra step of cordiality, you could even suggest the name of someone else nearby who might like to hold the baby instead.

It is up to the parent, but you could alienate some people by saying no! I think if the parent can give a reason. I just put him down for a nap, or he's been fussy today, etc. So long as this is the truth, I have no problem. Some people are not as responsible as others. I would have to ask them to sit with the baby.

no it is not rude. Better to decline, than to be uncomfortable. Some people just don't do the baby thing. Just be sure to be polite about it.

No way.
As a new mom...sometimes we new parents get over anxious. And, when someone refuses to hold the baby it's a line drawn in the sand --- we realize we're being crazy new parents.
Besides, if someone is just getting over a cold any mom would be more than happy if you refused. If you don't want to be asked - sneeze or cough in your hand ;-P

No it isn't. What IS rude is people who think that just because they got a new kid, everyone else wants to constantly see pictures of it. Accept it people: babies are fickin ugly and they all pretty much look the same. Show me a picture when its a couple years old and starts looking like someone.

Not if you do it in a polite manner. Simply say that you are not comfortable holding a baby that is so fragile. Honestly, the people who want to hold babies are people that can't wait to have one of their own or people who have had them and want to remember that feeling. My cousin is just like you and thinks I am silly when I want to hold my niece every minute I can.

No, it's not rude. If you're generally not comfortable holding babies (and most people I know who don't have kids are very uncomfortable holding them...especially newborns), make light of it and say something like, "Oh nooo...she's too small. I'm afraid I'll drop her!" I didn't hold my nephew when he was born, and my sister-in-law was totally understanding.

No properly it relies upon quite I recommend if their hands are not complete and they merely grant you ought to merely say i don't sense comfortable w/ protecting little ones sorry that does no longer be impolite yet when their hands are complete and they desire you to carry them then it may well be style of impolite to decline.

i don't believe it is rude in nice words you could let the parent kow that you at don't feel safe holding the baby and you don't want anything to happen to the baby. also that you have a nice friendship with the parents and you don't want to stopped being friends.
