Disneyland! Universal Studios has very few rides, and the shows are not the best. Plus California Adventure is great fun for a 17 year old! Heck, that's where i went on my honeymoon!

Disneyland! I worked there and I still like going every so often. I have been to Universal and the City Walk is fun. The down side to Universal is that there aren't that many rides and the lines are normally long, especially if it is during the summer. Disneyland is also crowded but the rides are better. Definitely go on the exciting rides for the 17 year old and hit up California Adventure (don't miss Soaring Over California) The 17 year old would probably like Knott's Berry Farm, too, it's close and cheap compared to Disneyland.

Probably Disneyland in your circumstances. The 17 might have more fun at Universal Studios but the 7 year old would have more fun at Disneyland, but the 17 year old will still have fun at Disneyland / California Adventure

I grew up 5 miles from Disneyland. I went there numerous times and I never grew tired of it. It is for all ages and even more so since all of the additions in recent years. Universal Studios is fun too, but Disneyland is magical and takes you away to another world. Walt Disney was "one of a kind" and I don't think anyone will ever be able to compete with him or his creations.

Everyone loves DisneyLand, young and old alike, but you could to a day trip to Universal, and a few days at Disneyland, but anymore then a day at Universal is too much, theres not enough to to there, can be pretty boring actually. Good Luck and Have Fun!!

Well, you must understand that the 2 are on completely different levels. All kids should experience both, but its hard to say if one is better than another. Universal is more "things blowing up," virtual simulation rides.... that type of thing... take them if theyr are really into movie-making.
Disneyland, however, is a place every kid and adult should go to, at least once, if not once a year for the rest of their lives. A true American experience.
If you'd like help planning a trip to Disneyland (i.e. find out what rides your kids would like the best, where to eat, stay, pack, etc...) visit my Vacation Services Blog:

Disneyland, by ten trillion times. I would go alone in a heartbeat, given the chance. The concessions are of better variety and cheaper, the entertainment is of much better quality, the upkeep of the property is immaculate, the staff are all honestly friendly and love their jobs, the rides are both classic and exciting, the nightly shows are breathtaking, and it is a never-forget experience. While the older child may initially protest that it is "babyish", no one is innured of the charms of Disney, and they will soon be swept away by the magic, as well. Have a great time, and, do you have room for me, too?

I've been to both and personally I thought Universal Studios was better. Disneyland was soooo crowded and we waited in line for hourse for every ride. There was also tons of screaming kids running around. It was ok, but I prefer parks that are a little less crowded, even if there are fewer rides. Dorney Park is definately one of the greatest though!
