Jesus claimed:
"This generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place" (Matthew 24:34, Luke 21:32)
"these things" referred to his return
------------------------------------------------------
"Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom" (Matthew 16:28, Mark 9:1, Luke 9:27).
Either Jesus returned in the 1st Century, or he was lying which means the entire story is false.
Either way, he isn't coming back, so why do people keep making that claim?

In other words, the verses don't really mean what they say, they mean something else that has to be interpreted?
Pardon me for disagreeing with those who offer that explanation. The passages are clear in their meaning.

Citing additional scripture does not refute these passages, it only reinforces the idea that the bible is not accurate.

I surely hope no one thinks I'm making fun of them. I hope they take the oppoturnity to offer their honest opinions just as I am offering mine.
The world would be really boring if we all agreed.
Thanks to all of you for your answers, whether I agree with you or not is irrelevant. The words (yours & mine) are here for everyone to read so they can decide for themselves.
And, I would have it no other way.

People since the begining of civilization have come up with different religions amongst which there is one common factor: A SAVIOUR. Life is not fair and religions try to introduce heaven and hell and after life in order to make it easier for people and benefit from them. The idea of a savior is a very old one which we can see in almost all religions long before Christianity. After all, there are always some Losers who would not fight for their rights and expect a savior to come and make every thing all right for them. I am happy u ain't one of them.

well you can translate the scripture how ever you want if that's what you want to believe that's fine you have ever right to believe as you wish, but you are asking why I personally believe Jesus is coming so I will tell you but first I want to address the verse you left on this post
"Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom"
There are many ways one can interpret this verse
one can say the term "generations" is as a reference to the race of Jews I'm not sure about that interpreting but it is one way to
another could be Jesus is referring to the generation that is alive/around when the prophecies are fulfilled I lean toward that one a little more
reading it right off the bat those are the 2 that come to mind but I am sure there are many more
I really don't use a time frame but that which the book of THE REVELATION OF ST JOHN THE DIVINE
The easy answer I believe in the bible since you said
Citing additional scripture only reinforces the idea that the bible is not accurate I will refrain myself . I won't give you all the verses if you don't want them, But I think Jesus will come back because of a feeling I get in my heart and I wish I could share it with words but I know I can't and my truth may not be your truth it's hard to say, could my feelings be wrong? of course I don't think they are but I am sure you feel the same about yours right and it would be wrong of me to say your feelings are wrong, All I can tell you is what I feel and without faith it wont mean much and I know that.
Thank you for given those an opportunity to answer what they believe without making fun of them I find my brother although he loves me at times laughs at me for following the bible so literally :)
Have a great night

Thanks for quoting passages exactly as they are, which is not often the case in this forum.
Just to give a general principle before answering. The principle is that we must read everything in context.
The first quote if read in context, you will know that Jesus is talking about the signs of the end of times. Jesus is saying that those who see these signs of the end of times, THIS GENERATION will not pass away until everything about the end of times happen. Seeing just one verse up in Luke 21:31 will help you see what I mean.
The next quote once again if read in context, you will know that Jesus was transfigured into his FULL GLORY (just as Jeuss was in HIS KINGDOM) before 3 of his disciples ("SOME OF THOSE STANDING HERE") Just going down one verse in Luke 9:28, 29 will help you see what I mean.
I hope the explanation helps.

Nothing so special: People being materialistic today. That's why such claim is made to remind them that there's a God.
I would say only one thing - Prophecies made have come true, and there are already AntiChrist people mentioned in the Revelations here today, with 666 marked on their forehead (and even worse to mark it with blood, by commiting crime involving money or properties and putting priorities in money than anything else, eg. families, love, religion, recreation, etc.), and the Four Horsemen, with their symbols of punishment...
Read the Bible more and watch the daily news. Make comparisons yourself and you'll know.

You miss interpret the Scriptures. All things spoken of have come to pass. Some did see Christ in His glory(kingdom) on the mt. of transfiguration. The problem is you have pulled the batteries out of your smoke detector( your conscience) and choose to live in your sins. Here is an e-mail from an athiest to show why we do what we do.
This is an excerpt of an e-mail to Ray from an atheist.
http://www.livingwaters.com/atheist.shtml
"You are really convinced that you've got all the answers. You've really got yourself tricked into believing that you're 100% right. Well, let me tell you just one thing. Do you consider yourself to be compassionate of other humans? If you're right, as you say you are, and you believe that, then how can you sleep at night? When you speak with me, you are speaking with someone who you believe is walking directly into eternal damnation, into an endless onslaught of horrendous pain which your 'loving' god created, yet you stand by and do nothing.
If you believed one bit that thousands every day were falling into an eternal and unchangeable fate, you should be running the streets mad with rage at their blindness. That's equivalent to standing on a street corner and watching every person that passes you walk blindly directly into the path of a bus and die, yet you stand idly by and do nothing. You're just twiddling your thumbs, happy in the knowledge that one day that 'walk' signal will shine your way across the road.
Think about it. Imagine the horrors Hell must have in store if the Bible is true. You're just going to allow that to happen and not care about saving anyone but yourself? If you're right then you're an uncaring, unemotional and purely selfish (expletive) that has no right to talk about subjects such as love and caring."

You misinterpret the scripture, and then make the proclomation that He isn't coming back? Scriptural knowledge comes from studying and understanding from the Holy Spirit. You speak on what authority? Christ himself said He was coming back, and God the Father was the only one whom knew the day, and the hour of His return, even Jesus said He did not know it it. The Man healed ppl when others could not, raised ppl from the dead, and drove a very powerful demon out of a man into a herd of pigs, He did this all in the name of God, gave the glory to His Father, to not believe Jesus when He says He is coming back makes Him a liar, and if anyone deserves to be believed that has ever walked this planet, it is Jesus.

First..no man knows which generation it will be that will see the last days....when the time of the gentiles is completed. 2nd, James & Peter DID see the Christ in His Kingdom glory, at the top of the mountian peak...Mt.17:2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

OH He will come back and because you say he isn't is proof.....
Just read.......2 Peter 3:3-5 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain
3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

And then in Matthew 17:1-9, the ones J was talking to saw J in Kingdom glory, (before they died). Gee, if you don't get the surrounding context, you get the message.

He will come back, but not until the world falls into chaos and he needs to save us. And for those of you that said we've waited thousands of years without words. Proof is everywhere not in words maybe but it is there in miracles. It might not happen in this generation or the next but it will happen.
