If you mean in terms of net worth indeed, it is Bill Gates however, being the richest in the world doesn't always mean having the most money. Most people think that if they have lots of money that they'll be "rich". If you have house over your head, food in your stomach, friends, family, good health, and faith in a higher power and are able to appreciate what little or whatever you already have, you too can be "the richest man in the world".

Money can only buy tangible things. There is much more importance in life than bills and coins. The richest person is the one who appreciates nature and real beauty in life.

The richest man in the world is anyone who is content with his/her life. Anyone still pursuing romance/career/ or other desires is in a very "poor" state indeed. Few people, even those with money or power, ever reach that state.
