Here is the Christian understanding in short:
In heaven there is no longer marriages as there are on earth. Marriage as an instituation of God was meant as a source and sign of His grace through a spouse. His grace is necessary in this life to do His will and find the reward of salvation. God also intended marriage to be a model of Himself. God the Father loves God the Son so much that there love is a whole other part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Husband and wife love each other is an analogous way and it is so real it becomes a child. I'm not making this up. This is what Christians have professed for centuries.
So Marriage in essence is help in the path of a life with God and also to prepare us for a life with God. The bible is one big wedding story. God courts us and asks us to join the wedding feast with Him in heaven. Christ called Himself the groom and the Church (us) His bride. We received Christ as a bride receives her husband. In heaven the analogy of marriage is no longer necessary. We are in full communion with God and are in full relationship with Him. Certainly we will still love our spouses unconditionally, but we will also love all others to the same degree because that is what God does and then we do it by proxy.
Hope I made that clear. Marriage is holy beyond belief because it draws us in to the inner life of the Trinity. But we do not need it necessarily to live in God's light. Many give up marriage for the sake of God and marry Him directly.
All in heaven will love each other ultimately and fully. So there are no favorites such as a spouse.

Are you asking whom they will spend eternity with as a spouse in heaven? There is no marriage in heaven, our spirituality in heaven goes beyond the bounds of marriage, meaning there is no use for it there, our relationships with others there will surpass the human need for that kind of love, need for imtamacy and so forth. Jesus was also tested with this same question.

(Luk 20:35) But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
(Luk 20:36) Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
(Luk 20:37) Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
(Luk 20:38) For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Hmmm that's a great question. Wow, I'm actually impressed. I think it's up to the person who remarried to decide.

well according to the bible, we will not be sad or sick etc in heaven... heaven is not a place for marriage or sex or any of the like--you will recognize those you loved and hold warm memories with them but no hard feelings...you will hold the friendship of both but no romantic relation with either. if that happened can you imagine how much like jerry springer heaven would be?? as for hell, according to the bible youre alone there so...

as Jesus told the Sanhedrin, you will not have to worry about marriage. We will be concentrated on God, not each other. It's the same old mistake that people make that God and his stuff is here for us. We are here for Him. Simple
