Your question seem not just about male alone, but it is rather an universal issue.
The truth is, that every individuals makes mistakes. If one can step back a bit and see their mistake in a objective manner, having know the need of changing and developing which is good. It is possible to repair what is damaged or broken. All we need to do is to develop our empathic ability, and use it in a constructive way. And yes, one can change. It is just matter of time.

Only if he really wants to. Alot of times the man will just change for a little while. Then slowly return to the way they were.

I think he has to admit to the problem or problems and WANT to change. If you think you can change him just because you want to, you are going to be disappointed. I think true change comes from within. No one can make us do anything we don't want to do, right?

Men are creatures of habit, if you let them do something they will continue to do it. Most people are that way it is easier not to change.
