Before i was hired i told them how i had to go to church on saturdays and i told them what time it started and what time it ended. they had me come in after it ended. But now they are making me work so i cannot go. Should I say something to them about it? Because it is important to me that i go.

Do you think it's just possible your boss forgot? S/he might have been making the schedule one day and said "hey, why does this girl always come in so late? We could use her earlier..." and scheduled you. It makes him or her a crappy boss if s/he did forget, but s/he's even crappier if s/he didn't. I would go up to your boss and phrase the question as if you assume s/he must have forgotten, like "I'm sure I told you this before, do you remember that I need such-and-such time off on Saturdays? I really can't come in at this time." I'm sure your boss will correct your schedule in the future.

Remind your boss that you are not available to work on Saturday until ____ o'clock. (Whenever you get out of church.) If you continue to miss going to church you will start to become unhappy and frustrated since you do want to go. Work does not fulfill the same needs as a church service does. Therefore you should continue to do both; as you did when you first started the job. Maybe your boss forgot about your agreement. Tell him, if necessary, that going to church is something you are going to do. However, don't use the excuse of not being able to get up on Sunday mornings after a late night of work. People will not be sensitive to your sleeping needs; but they will have to respect your desire and decision to attend church. With some determination you will be able to both work and attend church as you'd like.

Many places do things like this, usually after you've been there a month or so. Maybe they just forgot. Maybe they just think that they can leverage not wanting to switch jobs over you...now that you're "comfortable" there. You won't know until you ask. I've seen it done MANY times to folks with kids. They are agreeable for a short while to accomodate hours necessary for a parent. then when they think they "gotcha" they suddenly can't arrange it anymore. My wife was fired from a job because of this. A part time job at that.

I would mention something to them. After all, you told them before you were hired that you had prior arrangements at that time, and they were for it. If anything else, they might make you choose that over your job, and whichever is more important to you, go for. And keep in mind, a good employee is hard to find, so there are many jobs out there still looking....... :)

At every single job that I have had, I have brought up before accepting the job that I will not work from sunset Friday's to sunset Saturday's due to religious reasons. Every employer told me that would be fine and they would keep their promise. If, in like your case, I would have been told later that they needed me to work during those hours, I would have reminded them of what I had mentioned before accepting the job. If they would have insisted, I would have submitted my resignation.

If your boss is inflexible, talk to your Human Resources department about it. I'm sure arrangements could be made. If you're availability is low, however, for the rest of the week, he may be scheduling you that time because it's the only time he has? Not knowing the specifics of your situation, it's difficult to say.

Miss if it is important for you that you go then you go. Tell them you have an availability conflict.

Sounds like you are Jewish? That is the only religion I know of that has services on Saturday. Is that correct?

They are required by law to provide you with a reasonable accomodation to take care of your religious duties. If they don't make attempst to find a reasonable accomodation (as long as it does not cause then undue hardship) they can be accused of discrimination.

Yes, you should say something. You should also consider talking to an attorney if they continue to make you work.
