God "goes for a walk in the Garden of Eden.", doesn't see Adam, calls for him and finds him "hiding" behind a tree. That must have been a REALLY big tree. Omniscient means ALL knowing. To the Creator there would be no "behind" or "In front of" because God knows all. Correct?

Would God "choose" to be petty, angry, jealous, vengeful, semi psychotic and egomaniacal? My guess is that a petty, angry, jealous, vengeful, ego maniacal line of religous men actually wrote all that stuff and for centuries it has been passed along as "TRUTH".

Would an Omniscient, Omnipotent Source really have limitations or a "personality", and not a very evolved one at that?

Even the Buddha and Jesus evolved to states of unconditional love-yet The Bible has God asking people to kill their children and admitting that He "made a mistake" creating humans so he wiped them out and started again-Noah-the first alcoholic-the flood-remember?

Which is it: Omniscient CREATOR or a god with a small "g"?

God & Adam were only playing 'Hide & seek'. You must have the revised version.

1. God knew where Adam was. The point was that Adam, formerly innocent and open to God and the world, was suddenly hiding. It's like when you tease a 3-year old whose just learned to hide.

2. The story says, when God's laws are broken, God may be vengeful. But the story also says God is just as bountiful a source of forgiveness, mercy, and joy.

3. God tested Abram's devotion by asking if he WOULD kill his son, Isaac. God's plan, however, was only to measure the devotion, not to actually have Abram complete the sacrifice. The story even mentions that God had a young ram in the bushes, so that a sacrifice (and then dinner) could be made.

By the way - the only sacrifice God asks in the Bible was his own son. And God knew that Resurrection was in store there.

Buddhism believes that all life is suffering. Is that really the philosophy you want? No biggie to me, this isn't a sales pitch. But the choice of a happier philosophy could generate a happier life for you.

I'm straight up here...I'm sketchy on the why-the-flood thing. All I can say from here is that the world needed to re-boot, and God had a plan, and a lesson - belief is important, perfection is not.

The story of Adam and Eve is strictly metaphorical. Basically the Garden of Eden is childhood innocence, and the Tree of Knowledge represents the seedy path to adulthood. While Adam and Eve are much happier in their little bubble, they are ignorant of the real world (Exile). God is more of a character and symbolizes the harshness of life. "Ignorance is bliss" would be the main theme of this fable. But as for the actual answer to your question: I'd say God is infinitely incomprehensible so I don't really have an answer!

You have some real issues with the Bible. You are right I believe in the idea that the Bible was written by man and I don't see God as Hellfire and Brimstone. I find it hard to believe that a parent (father or mother) would condemn his childred to burn in hell forever for any reason. What would be the point? I think we should believe in the New Testament teachings of Jesus and try to folllow his example. God is Love and Jesus is his son.

it's a ominescient creator. Jesus says in Mark and Luke that God knows what happens to us and what we do. he knew where Adam and Eve were but he wanted to see if Adam would do the right thing and appear before God so he would stop trying to hide

Thanks for the laugh, that's the funniest thing I've read all day.

It does make you wonder how God the Magnificent is keeping watch over his creations when all they have do is hide behind a tree (in a house?) and he can't find them.

That biblical God sure is weird.

The simplest answer is that the bible is a poorly written book of mythology.

He tried to hide, God Knew where he was and called him out. Adam was not hiding fully, but physicaly from God on Earth to keep from being seen in the nude. God was able to see him at all times, prior to the apple, God would visit earth like you visiting a freinds home. Adam was hiding his physical form and shame by God, not his entierty from Gods ominpresence.

"Adam, where are you?" [Genesis 3:9]

And he was also "walking in the garden" (on legs?) Obviously this LORD was an extraterrestrial doing cloning experiments on cave men. He appears to have been a grudger too. And to think the Christians associate this anthropomorphic mad scientist with Jesus' father in heaven (his inner god). lol, how amusing!

I think of it more that people actually wrote and interpreted the word of God to put it into the Bible...therefore, they were probably using the humanistic perspective....aka...Adam saw himself as hiding behind the tree, not God thinking of him as hiding.

It would be sad if you based your faith on whether God was truly looking for Adam or being Fatherly like when I ask my little boy where where he is when I know he is hiding behind the couch.
